I thought the 07's already had the conversion. The
06 bars are very different from the conversion bars.
They were bigger in diameter and didnt have heat wrapped on the hooks.
That may be but like I said, I'm new to this whole issue. I guess what I'm asking is, I have 07's and the heaters suck. I just spent $150 to replace a bent handlebar. What do I have to do to get warm hands? Thanks
You need the 06 bars with the 07 harness that you got with your replacement 07 bars. The bent bars should also aready have the harness. So, all you should be missing is the 06 bars.
Thanks for the response! Of course, I guess this means I just wasted another $150 on this thing!LOL! Now just to clarify: I have one 07 that has the stock bar and one that has an 07 with some sort of little pigtail that I believe is an 06 upgrade. Do I need this pigtail on the sled with the origional bar or is the pigtail unneccessary on either sled and all I need is the 06 bar on my 07 sleds? I have 2 of these sleds that need the 06 bar I guess. Any idea on how hard it will be to find those and what the cost might be? Now I guess I'll go read the first post here! Thanks again.........Mark

I just made the change on my 06 Apex. I'm sorry I waited this long to change the bars over. These are the handwarmers I have been dreaming about the last 3 seasons. In my opinion there is nothing worse than having a great ride ruined because your fingers are about to fall off. I've had this happen many times the last 3 years.
I wanted to make sure there were no issues converting the bars with the 07 harness before I made the change. With nobody having issues, I decided to make the repair. As others have said, the bars are fantastic. I had great conditions to try them for the first time. Weather was +2F when we unloaded the sleds. Rode with 2 bars to start and quickly had to reduce to one bar. Couldn't have been happier. Thanks Dan. Another satisfied customer.

Well, I've been looking all over for some 06 bars to put on my 07 Apex to no avail. I've tried maybe 15 dealers and nuthin'! Also checked Ebay and Craigslist with same result. Now my question is: If I cut the J-hooks off my 07 bars do I basically have an 06 bar? I could do this then all I would have to buy is the 06 grip-heaters. Thanks........Mark

bars

Not sure if it a dumb question but need to ask.......

The 06 bars with the 07 harness will get hot. Enough feedback to believe. What about the hooks, they are still not heated. Do they get hot enough with the rest of the bar getting too hot?

I have the 07 bars installed. I enjoyed the warm hooks. A big improvement, but at 20 below last week my hands got cold even with the Gauntlets. Anything over 10 degrees was ok..

Has anyone blown their ECU with the update so far?

Thanks,

-Moose

I finally found my 06 bars to put on my 07 sleds. The dealer that I'm getting them from told me that Yamaha tells him thats a good way to fry the ECU. I'm thinking that may be because the grips can get so hot it shorts them out and kills the ECU. Thats y theres a "throttle" on the grip heaters! I was also thinking of maybe putting a smaller fuse in the grip circuit? But what do I know?

Hooks are not heated with the 06 bars..

You have to give something to get something..

Ok,

Does it at least take out the chill? Are they warm to the touch at ends?

Thanks,

- Moose

It does warm them slightly,,, it all depends on how tall your windshield is, and how high your bars are..

They are definitly not cold on the ends to the point where you notice it..

I have a stock 06 GT with stock bars. My dealer tells me the update is back ordered till March. Can I rewire my stock bars to get the same effect? I didn't read all the posts sorry if its been answered.

I put the 06 bars on my 07 and did not ride it yet but they got hot at idle. Thanks for the good tips and research that is done on this site . Tell YAMAHA that they use your guys tech. tips for free . I would say charge them but you allready posted the info so your sh*t out of luck. Thanks again !!! :rocks:

I installed a wiring harness kit that YAM have for the PZ50 GT/MT, here's the part #90891-50150 on my '08 APEX, it CLIPS right on the original wiring no cutting or splicing wires, it takes about 20 minutes to install.

This kit converts the stock in SERIES connection to PARALEL wiring, it did IMPROVE the performance of I'd say 75% or so, theirs MORE heat generated for sure but still not as warm as my '05 was!!!

I was running on the weekend and I can NOW feel HEAT!!! threw my cloves which I couldn't before, they barely got warm before...

I took PICS of harness and installation I'll try to post them tommorow night...

P.S. I'd like to thank "yel_low" who gave me this tip!!! ;)!

So this will work with my stock 07 ATTAK? If so I can't wait for an easy fix.

first time poster.....

Hey guys!

An introduction and a THANK YOU to the people here. I run a 2006 Apex Mountain, have almost 4000 km on it now in 3 seasons. I LOVE this sled, but the warmers are terrible.

So, I lashed out and read 37 (wow. just wow) pages on getting my grips warm. I still had my '06 bars but the dealer must have kept that little harness cause it was looooooooong gone. So I made one. :)

What I did was use a 4-flat trailer plug, and cut the Yammy ends off the '06 bars. This way, the sled chassis harness is untouched if I ever need to go back for some reason. Works great!

Now, my little input: I don't know if it got mentioned, but for us mountain guys, the '06 mountain straps were prone to fail. '07 came with a new strap, much shorter. You have to modify the mountain lugs on the bars to use the '07 strap on the '06 bars. No biggies, but thought I'd mention it.

Thanks for this tip. bars seemed to get nice and warm even at idle and puttering around my back alley.

I am going put in a fuse at the same time I do an 8" riser and pivot adapter, since I see this circuit is NOT protected in any way with a fuse at this time. <gulp!>

edit: I see that max draw is 10.9A. I think I will install a pigtail fuse @ 10A slow blow and see how that does.

Cheers
