Black 1000 said:Dan can you post a schematic of exactly how yours are wired?
a few posts back is the schematic of NEW wiring harness from 07 bars...you need this harness from the 07 kit,to plug in the 06 bars too....its very simple...just follow the instructions that came with 07 bar upgrade kit.
IF you're trying to hookup your 06 bars and DO NOT have a 07 harness, please look at that schematic ...and be sure to wire them in properly...with the plug ends they automatically plug in properly...but if you are cutting and splicing ect,be careful to make it exactly like above schematic.
the old wires had two wires plugged into the two wires of grip...one Hot and one ground..this is parallel.....the NEW HARNESS only utilizes ONE HOT from one side of machine, and ONE GROUND from OTHER side of the machine...this creates a series.
look closely at schematic and youll see how to make up your own harness.
you are going to use the wire(b/y)with YELLOW stripe(from one side of machines main harness) for HOT....
and the solid BLACK wire from OTHER SIDE of machines main harness for ground.
connect yellow striped wire to ONE SIDE of BOTH left and right GRIPs wires....and connect the black wire(from machines main harness) to remainding side of both left and right grips.Just like the schematic shows.
you will NOT use the black/red wires from machines mains harness anymore.

Why did some of you guys pay , it was a free update, or maybe the $29.95 cdn was for labour.I did mine myself and just handed in the form.Gees Iam glad it didn't cost me any money I'd really be pissed.

Not the electrical wiz here, but I have a Gt 07, you are saying that if I put 06 bars, I am home free ?
Reason I ask, is that, yesterday I flipped my sled and one of my damages is the bars got bent badly out of shape and need to be replaced. Just foamed them and they were warm too, but I like the 06 bars better (had an er 06) so if this is right, I prefer putting the 06 bars.

Yes,you can use your 07 harness to plug in old 06 bars...and voila.

Yes, put '06 bars on. '06 have heated grips unlike '07 heated tape. Heated grips are hotter. Use the '07 harness and wire in parallel. You can probably find someone selling '06 bars cheap or free.

Honestly I could care less about the $,I just wanted warm hands!....and it took my own injinuity to make it happen!

Ok so for us guys that have a 07, where can I get a set of 06 bars, or can I use just 06 grips on 07 bars. I would assume the dealer can order me 06 grip replacements, but will they fit a o7 bar?????
Help.
Help.
No issues to date?
Machzed, no problems to date with your set-up?
Would have been good for Yamaha Corporate to have figured this out before all the b.s trying to get new bars and installing to only find out it could have been much easier!
Surely some at Yamaha Corp. have been reading these posts, how long before they come out with a bulletin on this real cure??
I have yet been able to ride my '06 with the updated bars-hopefully by next weekend I'll be able to hit the snow to see any difference.

Still with little rideable snow here in Vermont I'm getting pretty good at taking off my handle bars. So Dan I'll go back in my garage, pour myself a frosty one, foam my '06, and try this. Boy Yamaha goin to love you!
Thanks again Dan for all your time. Your time and effort is one reason this site is number one.

Re: No issues to date?
Honestly...I doubt you will see yammie open this subject again..Im sure they KNOW they dropped the ball a second time..especially since MOST all are complaining that 07s suck too..lol.
but they will "hold the line" and do the typical yammie dance im sure..saying they cured the issue....
what will be interesting is to see what kind of grip setup the 08s come with?...Im afraid I might have to rewire or re grip any new yammies in the future...Unless they smarten up for 08..???..lets hope they read all this and get it right next year!

this is a good question...I think you could make the 06 grips work on 07 bars..but the grip is very thick...so you would have a thinner HOOK area with no grip whatsoever......My guess is you should try to order 06 bars with grips..but yammie might automatically updated part number to new bars....??
If it were me...and had an 07 sled..I would BUY a used set off someone who doesnt read TY!...LOL...im sure you might even be able to get a free set,or call dealers as they seem to be keeping them from update installs!

I agree, sj. When I hear people talking about guys who don't post anymore, or won't share info, it makes the group look bad. It takes guys like Dan who help without argument to keep the interest in this site.
IMO, if there are going to be people who post, but won't sare what they've learned or experienced, why log on at all!
Keep up the good work, Dan!
