Warning, -16 late build Viper turbo breakdowns, bad rods.

I receive my new motor in the crate last friday. Next week im potting carillo H beam rods in the new motor so ill be safe to go stage 11.

so yours was covered under warranty also? if so it is good to see that yamaha is doing something about this issue. where do they draw the line though. would be good to see them recall ALL late 2016 models and replace with factory stronger rods

So who is tearing down this NEW engine and building back with rods ?

Right but wouldnt a 16.5 with good rods be preferable over old motor? To me it would because of starter gear improvement alone.

oh if they replace the rods with better ones that would be fine. we are finally going to get hit with snow here this week so im really disappointed :(

Mine is the same motor, that why im changing the rods.

I would do the same thing Mtx. Who is paying for the rebuild? Where did you get your rods?

I would try to get some details on the new motor if possible - if they've done anything to improve the strength of the rods. If its turbo charged ask them specifically where do you go from here

I purchased my 2016 viper xtx in November. Build date was 10/2015. I have the new motor in my sled (Confirmed with pictures in other forums on here). I did not get the MPI turbo kit. Just curious about what is happening with theses new motors with boost. And will Yamaha be fixing ALL motors regardless if they were boosted or not from new??

Yah that's what I've been hearing. I'm going to contact my dealer tomorrow to see if they have any news on this (Ottawa, Ontario). Hopefully Yamaha will get this sorted out soon!

We have been doing alot of testing with this new engine in the yxz1000r platform. After upgrading the rods and installing head studs, the engine seems strong over 300hp. This engine still has the stock pistons in it. There are many little changes inside the new engine but the rods seem to be the inly week spot
