Warning, -16 late build Viper turbo breakdowns, bad rods.

my dealer did say a recal could be coming out and they have paperwork on the issue, i doubt they would replace the rods, for one i dont want my dealer dissasembling my brand new engine to install rods- no way, its probably more cost effective for them to replace the engines, i hope.

A new motor would definitely be the right way to go! Hopefully we will know soon! Connor were you planning to boost your sled?

yes i am, i went to my dealer to buy a 2015 ltx se he had brand new left over, i was talked into the 2016 ltx se for almost the same price as the 2015- i thought it was the smart thing to do to go for the 2016, my sales guy told me i can still put the turbo on it when ever i am ready with my full warrenty still, i couldnt afford to buy the turbo at the same time i bought my sled so i figured i would put the turbo on in the summer, so im really hoping they fix this issue

connor

I really thought i did my homework on buying my first new sled. Figured buying the 3rd year model would be safe with the trusty motor. I spring purchased it and was debating on the turbo- instead i have the ulmer exhaust, intake and clutch. Wondering if those mods are too much for the rods. Ive always had the plan of purchasing a turbo if i wanted to get more power out of the sled. Now if the rods go im sure yamaha wont cover it. I'm really regretting this purchase.

What leads you to this conclusion with all that you have read in this thread? It seems that those who have had an issue are being taken care of it seems. This is both in Canada and the US. I am sorry you have regrets. I also did my research for the past two years and purchased a 2016 with every intention to put on a turbo. I spring ordered mine with a turbo and so far it works great. My opinion is that it will be taken care of if and when something happens to the motor. Your mods may have added what maybe 10hp? I would not loose any hair over that as putting a turbo on adds 45-60 HP. Until then my advice to you is to what I am doing: Driving it and enjoying the hell out of it.

they gotta do somthing for all late 16 sleds, they wont sell me a turbo for my 16, even tho when i bought they said they would sell me a turbo anytime

I just called yamaha usa and asked them about the connecting rod issues and USA Yam said that they do not have a single case of a connecting rod issue and that the electronics on the canadian sleds are totally different and that is why they are having issues.

HAHAHAHA

That is too funny. I am sure there are two people in this thread that are getting motor replaced that are from the US. When in doubt, DENY, DENY, DENY.

That was my thought exactly

If, and I would bet anything against this, that "the electronics on the canadian sleds are totally different" then Yamaha is in for a world of hurt. That would imply that they are selling the same machine with different specs without disclosing this while representing that they are the same. That alone leaves them open for all sorts of remuneration to be paid. They would be admitting that it was their programming/assembly that is causing the issue.

I've dealt with issues like this with other manufacturers before. The people you talk to on the phone are idiots that only know and/or only allowed to tell you what is on the screen in front of them. Until the actual "fix" is hitting the dealers the customer support people won't have any info.
