Warning, -16 late build Viper turbo breakdowns, bad rods.

View attachment 114363 Here is a pic of my paid in full (20k) 2016 turbo sled sitting at the dealer. They will not even let me pick it up. It's just sitting outside waiting for Yamaha to make a decision. I told them about what I learned on this post back Dec 9th and they dismissed it. Now my dealer is telling me I ( this post ) was right and Yamaha will make good on the sled and even Implied money back since I've not taken possession yet. My only saving grace is that it would just be sitting in my shop anyway since there is no snow to go riding. Great year to buy my very first brand new, top of the line dream sled !! :die
You see this? Sounds like good news. Will probably combine these two threads. Gets confusing and cluttered.

Interesting that they are holding it. In 1981 they recalled SRX engines and destroyed them, will be interesting to see how this plays out. I guess a lot depends on if it was just a bad run of rods or if there is an actual design flaw and my bet would be defective rods. If so it would explain holding sleds until you determine how many are bad. Will be more interesting yet to see what the rumored announcement this coming week from Yamaha will be.

"I have contacted Yamaha Canada about the poor quality of the 2016 engines. I had the intention of boosting my sled. Of course when I discovered the issues with engine a month after purchase I was a little upset:whine:. This is the response I received,

Good morning!

This is information we just recently received from our resources that the MPI turbo is not compatible with the 2016 Viper models....This is currently under investigation.

Sincerely,
Remi

Not much of a response. I am not impressed at all with the lack of concern. The thing is also, these sleds will not be worth much on resale value!"

If they put in writing that they are looking into it I am 100% confident Yamaha will in the least take care of everyone who had a engine failure at recommended boost levels which they can easily check.

Your paid for sled should be sitting in a warehouse not out in the weather like it is unless they plan on giving you a discount for a weathered sled. Dealers here don't leave sold sleds outside EVER.

What I mean is for all those who bought sleds before that notice which was just released. Everyone knows of the issue now. They will be taken care of Squatch. Would be willing to bet on it.

Yes leaving the sled outside especially uncovered is bad business. If they wont at least cover it and If you paid for the sled and signed the papers go get it it is your sled. Guys remember though it may have only been outside for a day or something. I would think the dealer would know better.

Has snow on the running boards may have just been out for a quick trip around the lot. OP will have to say

Well as stated before I am one of the "test sleds". I picked mine up in mid November and had to inform the dealer about the EABC issues and had already disconnected it. I went to Mesa on thanksgiving and ride it hard. I have since put 600 miles on it without missing a beat. Many pulls at 4 on boost gauge for short periods, I am a little

It is still running well but in all honesty I am glad they realize there is an issue and are dealing with it. However it won't stop me from driving it.

I'd be asking for my money back. Leaving a 20K sled outside like that!!??
Sorry, should have clarified. It was under a roof structure with a cover on it.

my bad....it was under a roof overhang with a cover on it. I took the pic with side panel off as he was giving me a tour of the turbo install. Had I arrived and seen the sled as is in photo I would have snapped.

I receive my new motor in the crate last friday. Next week im potting carillo H beam rods in the new motor so ill be safe to go stage 11.
