Man this sure is bringing back bad memories from my 13 cat, blew the chaincase in that one two,but at least it made it to 2500 miles instead of 186 pitiful miles,on this one,but in its defence,we are at or near 270 hp,and my buddy was jumping hills and having fun on it. He said it was spot on for rpms,at 9300 rpms, and ran it to 115 once on a short stretch of straight trail, but thinks the tall gearing we decided to go with, was just to tall,to do any ballistic stuff,he likes to do,just when he said, man I may have to get one of these,Bang,it goes and ruins there day, they just now got back to there rigs, and now have to go pick this dead sled up,which will only back up,till it gets stuck. he did say there was no fluids on the ground,so he hopes once broke open, its just the stock 21 top gear that is junk. As we have it geared 21/38 on 84 chain, and I can now go back to 41 bottom and 22 top on stock 86 chain,if all else inside is ok. So just my luck guys,i also just found out today, after coming home from my follow up visit, for stitches removed from Heart surgery, while I was being operated on,some low lifes were trying to break into my Patten home 4 hrs north. So any thoughts on gear baox mods??

Arctic cat uses the auto tensioner and Yamaha uses a manual. The point is when your up in the air and hit the gas the auto tensioner can clock forward and over tighten. So some guys are actually snapping them on landing. Switch over to the manual version.

I've seen lots of chains and chain cases blow when jumping at wot. The problem is the sudden hit when the track hits the ground again if you are still on the gas. This is a real problem with big HP. Even racers try to get off the gas when in the air before hitting ground again. It has the same effect as an impact wrench.

Its all Yamaha parts, except the bottom gear and chain, this yamakitty has a man adjuster, just the way it came to me.

Beast, the way your luck is going, i'd be scared to take a pee!
Yup,kinda feeling that way steve,i was really hoping to wrap a leg over it in april, for a quick blast, starting to wonder if I should just give up on it.

Yes you are 100% correct, and he feels as though he was not flying to bad, absolutely not WO,but overgeared maybe for this type of action.

A little bit of advice Pete. Don't let your friends on the sled!

As has been said by XP123. I bet the jumping did it. There's a reason the sno-crossers run a slipper gear on the bottom!

Ya,no dought Mike, and my buddy was aware of this,so we was hoping this would not rear its ugly head, but I remember all to well, the TD boosted sleds of the early procross days, and if you did not strengthen the chain case with good gears and chain, well you were a ticking timb bomb. So we will go to the 22/41 stock 86 chain,if that's all that is the problem is,and next year I may anti up 200 bucks for a good hyvo top gear, there seems to be so much yanking from the jackshaft being overpowered by some of these big HP rockets, and when you want to drive them like a true snowcross sled, well just member its not your grandmars 600cc lol.

,which will only back up,till it gets stuck

I agree with Cannondale27, sounds like actuator is acting up. Hope that is your problem as is easy fix.

It may have just come out of gear Pete. Take the actuator off, reclock and try again. Don't forget 3 times going in and out. All the gears are already Hyvo and Winder is 15 wide. Can't get any better than that.
Only the chain is hyvo. The gears are not. It is a better material than the first gears that came out in 2012 though, but still not hyvo grade. Never been a fan of any top gear less than 22 tooth for these. More stress on less area. I've been running a scott taylor 22 tooth hyvo in mine since almost new this year. 22-41 gearing with stock chain. Jumped a few culverts in the ditch, but agree its the landing on the gas that hammers the chaincase.

Sorry to hear about all bad luck man. I know in the last 10 years or so the amount of D-bags has substantially increased. I live back in the woods a little and never had a problem keeping my doors unlocked, until 6 years ago. After 2 attempted break ins I now have a security and camera system.

Hey AL,thats what my neighbor just said to me yesterday when we spoke a bout this stuff,he also said set it up so in one of our easy to view windows,i could have one of the outside old style huge round temp gages, and could watch the inside house temp from home on my smart phone, and if I see it getting much colder than we have it set at,give my man a call. Nice idea,we are not super savvy about new giszmos, kinds old,but not dumb...lol

He was not jumping on the gas,but I did gear it for more top end than the 22 /41 would give you,but totally forgot about the tight twisty upward and downward trails he has over by his property. It is a very heavy high HP sled, and being a 137 just blasting the track every time he slowed down below 50,it would just dig a hole. He did say the clutches and belt were cool to the touch though.Ya Jafo,i did call scott Tayler about the 22 top gear, but was running out of maney at the time, but rest assured next year I will have his 22 top,220 bucks or not.
