2011 Apex ER
Windshields have become ridiculous. My Apex has windshield that actually works, fits the machine's style, and doesn't look like somebody slapped huge square piece of lexan sail on the cowl. What is so hard about designing a true mid-height windshield that offers reasonable protection and looks good....really. I see this a lot on my friends ski-doos as well. Its either a potato chip or a floppy looking piece of plastic requiring ugly supports just to hold it up.

Yeah I liked the mid height windshield that the T Cat offered, but dealer claims they are not interchangeable with the Sidewinder. So no biggie, probably put a blue Cobra style aftermarket on! There shall be many to choose from come fall, don't you think? So with the awesome help of my dealer, I was able to change my order. Same track length but those better shocks on the LE would have haunted me every time I saw an LE. Now I won't need to add the accessory heated seat or change the windshield. RTX-LE. Better find a new avatar pic. By the way, I'm assuming Procross Cat windshields are interchangeable with the Sidewinder and T-Cat? This is the one I want.

My dealer was telling me
the windshields on the sled will probably not be the same as the prototype sleds. He figured they wouldn't be clear, but take that with a grain of salt.

Can't see them using two different mounting setups...and I'd bet the clear will be it on production..although I wish otherwise...

The negative talk is based on prior experience , which may not necessarily be as valid/relevant as imagined .
The 129 and 137 LE skids , are the same , forgetting the impact of the shocks , except for 4 inches of additional track on the ground .
Assuming the above is true , that 4 inches of track on the ground , or 8 inches of total track length , or even the additional 4 inches of rails , should not , IMO , cause a noticeable affect on the transfer of the sled .
Settings and shocks create the difference , and if the shocks are exactly the same , then you should be able to match the settings , on each skid.
Most or all comparisons , I believe , are with skids that have different shocks , and are set up differently , or there is actually a difference in the skids , that causes the difference in transfer .
I believe the big advantage of the 137 over the 129 , is increased traction , and stability.
The extra 4 inches , of track on the ground should not have a negative impact on the handling of the sled , and IMHO , should actually have a positive impact .
Track selection , IMHO , should have a much greater affect in handling , than that 4 inches ever will .
ASSUMING ALL OTHER COMPONENTS ARE IDENTICAL .
My opinions are based on having ridden 121 and 144 tipped up versions , of a similar sled , not an identical sled .
I am getting the 137 , based on my beliefs , and about 80 % of all purchasers on the poll are also buying the 137 !
The bottom line is all SIDEWINDER PURCHASERS , should be very happy !!!!!!!!!!!!
In reading track length comparison between the Viper RTX-DX and the LTX-SE it was suggested that there was NOT an additional 4 inches of track touching the snow but rather only an additional 3 inches on the LTX over the RTX. Then Turtle from Muffin Works chimed in to say the following: "Actually it's less than that. The LTX uses an 8" wheel. So it's more like 2.5" more track on the ground. Think of it simply as one more track lug on the ground over the RTX."
I'm like everyone else......looking at pictures and trying to compare the number of lugs on the ground between the RTX and LTX. Some photos appear to be 1.5 to 2 lugs more, while others appear to have only one more lug as indicated by Turtle. The RTX should be delivered with 7.120" rear wheels while the LTX has 8" wheels. Different size rear wheels plus skid geometry should close the gap on actual track on the snow. If this turns out to be the case, I don't think there will be a significant handling difference between the 2 models....

It's minimal..agreed...the difference in ride and track efficiency is noticeable...there's something about the track return angle...lift the flap on the two....I can't think of one reason not to get a 137" after owning one..and many shorter track sleds including a 129" pro cross...it felt like a different sled

Right!! At times it just amazes me how much one pushes with an opinion.
Exactly. If these sleds were more similar that not, Yamaha wouldn't have given us the option.Right!! At times it just amazes me how much one pushes with an opinion.

Im betting I'm one of the few that had owned both in this chassis...I'm sharing my experience for those who want a impartial opinion...I'd love it if the cheaper sled was better (shorty with the lesser shocks)...but it wasn't...I suppose it doesn't matter since all looking here have made their decisions already...enjoy your decision as we will ours..fyi..it took allot to push me to the 137 as I like the looks of the Orange and grey shorty better...
No one said I wasn't allowed. But it's been beat to death if you would go back and read the whole thread you would see that. It just seems the guys with the137s coming think it's the best for every buyer, which really isn't fair.I was talking to Steve and he asked me what I thought about his new sled verse the 128's we both owned. I thought I'd share my experience. I didn't know that wasn't allowed.
I know you guys will love this sled regardless of which model you bought.

I'm thankful we have options. I just wish they would have gone one step further and gave us options like Polaris does. You get like 5 panel color choices, 5 slide rail color options and 3 or 4 different track options.
Poo had a killer spring break option for sled styles. This is where Ski Doo really missed the boat. But you are right, it's great to have the options we did. I think all the SW models looks pretty damn sharp.I'm thankful we have options. I just wish they would have gone one step further and gave us options like Polaris does.
