I have a chance to purchase a mpi Sr viper 190 turbo kit that is new in box that was purchased but never installed. It has the same yamaha part # as the 180 kits for all elevation/low elevation. What is the difference, the mpi site shows all the same parts list for both the 180 and 190 kits?

If it's a true 190 kit it should come with an inner cooler vs the 180 hp trail turbo.
It is advertised as a mountain turbo kit 190 hp yamaha part# sma-8jp17-00-tb ,the pics of it do not show a inner cooler and when I called the dealer there parts guy said the ad gives all the info about the kit,the only difference I found was on the mpi site was in the pics of the 180/190 kit saying the mountain kit does not have the eabc

I thought that the inner cooler was part of the stage 1 upgrade kit or did the 190 mtn kit come with it when the kits first came out

Yeah this has been very confusing since day 1. They sell 2 kits 1 is the stage 1 kit which is a true 190 hp kit at low elevations. It comes with an adjustable waste gate and intercooler. Then they make what is called the 190 kit which has an air box replacement and a programmed boost control unit. The 190 kit is good but lacks the items needed like the adjustable waste gate and intercooler if you ever want to increase the boost. It is very safe but I can tell you this is addictive and later to add the items to increase the power can get more expensive. So if you get a great deal on the 190 kit say about $2500 or less go for it.

RLA1 keep in mind the 190 kit usually includes the HSK-1179 boost controller unit which is says right on the website not for MTX Models which your signature says you have

Thanks good info,i do have a mtx but I normally sled at 1500-2000 ft and only go to the mountains 1-2 times a season, would either of the 2 kits be ok or like you said the kit that says not for the mtx be totally wrong and not usable on my sled.So confusing, and it is less than the price that you stated in Canadian currency

That is a deal and yes you should have no problem running at low elevations with it.

Thanks,my only concern then would be up in the mountains?what do you think I would have to do to run it there

I do not know why they say not the MTX because I thought the electronic boost control was to automatically adjust boost for elevation change to keep the boost consistent when you went up in the mountains. maybe call them and ask as if you were going to purchase from them why ? or just pm Matt from MPI on here he is a great guy

Thanks, that is the issue that is confusing to me the most, spent a lot of time going through the forums looking for so insight into this but have not been able to find any so far,the only difference I can see thus far (other then the obvious) between the mtx viper and other vipers is the factory clutching which I have to change anyway to run it at lower elevations like here.

A turbo should not need clutching for elevation change since HP should be same at any elevation.

Thanks Cannondale,i guess what I ment was that my stock mtx came with mountain clutch weights and to ride it here I had to add weight so I could go over 45mph without hitting the Rev limiter, do you by chance have any info into why the eabc in mpi's 180/190 viper turbo kit is not for mtx's,cannot find anything on it,and find it very confusing

I would PM MrSled he has done many of those. Yamadog has good advice with contacting Matt@MPI also.
