My new ride

It's been dumping snow like crazy here since Saturday, and I couldn't sit and watch it anymore. I have probably a foot of snow in my garden, all of it since Sat. This is a residential area and this part of Norway doesn't allow for sledding, but I just had to take her out for a spin :)

I'm now a much happier person :)

Mounted the front and rear skid plates today. A bit PITA to get the rear skid plate to fit properly but with some muscling its on now. The instruction said to pre-drill all holes but that wasn't a good idea, so I ended up with a few extra holes, but they are invisible now under the skid plate :)

Put the sled on its right side

There are a few fasteners and rivets that needs to be drilled out

The skid plate will cover the front holes on running boards, so it needs to be cut if you want to keep the holes. I recon it will collect a lot of snow in there if the holes are covered up so I cut them out. Started with four guide holes and used a cut saw to do the rest

I've been reading here about the tri-hub issues so didn't want to wait until was the next one.
Got the J&T 8.5" 4 wheel kit of eBay and installed it today. Changed the hyfax as well as they were already worn to the limit. Surprise, surprise, it was really easy to change the hyfax, I could pull them out by hand and push the new one in. Just had to hammer the last few inches.

Tri-hub off. The adjustment design is a simple design, but works great. It's just a PITA do work with...

The J&T kit sure is nice and is well made

Wheels installed. Would have been easier with an extra pair of hands.

I like those wheels way better then the Yamaha fourth wheel kit

How many miles on the hyfax that you changed?

Well, it says 680 km on the odo, starting to think it has some more miles on it. Either that, or the previous owner drove the 680 km on the road..???

Birkebeiner

Ya that's not much at all. That being said if the previous owner drove on icey trails with no lube. that could be.

Plans for it? Yeah, I've already ordered Curves and the fan reverse. I plan Ulmer clutch kit (I'll wait with the air box mod and muffler until next season), Hygear 141" Pro Linkage kit and the Dual Pressure kit for the front shocks. I'll get it to ride nicely before I do any performance upgrade. Turbo? Not sure yet, but those 180/190 hp kits are tempting... :)

My planned mods are now done, or at least I have the parts :)
Finally got my Curves, ended up buying a set second hand but they are in good condition, and only $175 with mount kit and slightly used 9" sharper bars.

I lowered the skid to the lowest holes as well, put in the Zbroz #160 center spring and the sled rides very nicely now, absolutely no darting, best riding sled I've ever had.

Other mods;
Swapped the front Float 3s with a set of Fox QS3s. Absolutely love them, worth every penny! Bought them brand new from a guy who sold them on the Viper forum on Facebook. Paid $100 less than Country Cat wants for them on eBay and are a take off from a brand new '16 LTX. I ride them on the softest setting, #1, and work awesome!!

I finally pulled the trigger on the Hygear linkage kit and Dual Pressure kit for the rear Float. Got it installed towards the end of Easter and didn't get to put too many miles on after it, so not sure what think of it yet. On top of it I think the Dual chamber is leaking as it seems to bottom out too easily. I started with 200 bars in the Dual chamber and 120 in the main chamber. However, when I attached the pump again to the Dual chamber I couldn't get any pressure reading on the pump... I'll have to take the shock off again to check it.

According to the Hygear instructions the inner idler wheels needs to be taken off when running the linkage kit AND the Dual Pressure kit. But the wheels, or more correctly the wheel mount, can be turned around and placed outside the rails. I just need to buy a set of matching wheels :)

I also have the fan reverse, fuse relocator and Japan throttle from BoPs but didn't get time to put these on yet. I guess that's my summer project :)

You can read about the rest of the mods further up this thread :)

The trail conditions changed quite a bit over Easter, starting with rock hard trails due to mild temps the week before Easter and then turning cold. Last Saturday the temp went up and the trails became super soft again, so we got slushy spring snow.

Check your clearances since you moved those wheels outside. In pic it appears they will hit the upper wheels if suspension bottoms. Maybe it's just the camera angle...?

Good point! Will check it out :)

Probably why those wheels are removed on the '16 LE with Float Evol...?
