what kind of studs and how many for 121's and 136's

my dad and i were wondering bout studs. hes got an 04 rx1 with minor mods-clutching exhaust k&n's. we only want to run studs down the middle on both sleds. i have an 05 rs rage with exhaust, clutching, and soon to be nitrous. wondering how many i should run with my 136. let me know of some patterns.

I went to the dealer a couple of weekends ago to discuss accessories. They recommended 144 studs in the middle for the 121" Apex or RX-1.

I'm looking to go with the Woody's 144 pattern, down the middle 120 something studs or so I think? Have to mark it out. I'm also going to punch and clip my ripsaw for lubrication purposes, as my track stuck to the hyfax once already in Canada.

Run the 1.325 Woody's megabites, great studs! I ran 108 (2 per row) in a V pattern up the middle on my Warrior and was very pleased.

I asked awhile back about the double backers and most people felt they are much stronger. I am going to run 144 up the middle on my vector with the 4-2 pattern using two doulble backers and two single. Fast track has a new xl double backer. its not in the books yet but they have it as of sept 1st. Its comes way up the stud and helps support the longer stud needed for the rip shaw.

Studboy 96 snowcross pattern .1375 worked awesome for me last year on my 05 RX shorty.

I don,t like studding only up the middle. Run that pattern for a year and look at your sliders they will have worn at an angle especialy up front because all of those center studs are constantly pushing up on the center of your track. Run 96 up the middle and 48 on the outside. It will hook up better on snow and ice. I have not tested this theory but I think 144 up the middle may also cost you some top end. The inertia of all those studs down the middle will distort the track at high speeds (like a 4 wheeler tire) and will also force the center of your track closer to the tunnel increasing the "supercharging effect" and a loss of top speed.

My last 2 sleds were studded up the middle only with zero issues to my sliders. I'm not sure what you did wrong charged rtx :itchy:

For the record, the only studs I have ever lost have been on the outside :?

The thing i dont like about studding the outside is, that you always take the chance of pulling out an outside stud and the track splitting in half there! atleast if one of the center ones pull threw, its not necicarilly going to ruin the track

I don,t think there is anything wrong with studding up the middle. It won,t cause problems. It does wear your sliders unevenly to some extent depending on a lot of factors. I do think studding more evenly gives better all around performance. I don,t think being concerned with ripping studs out should be a factor in your decision to stud. Unless your running WFO in bad conditions you won,t rip one out period. The only studs I have ever ripped out was from loading onto my trailer. I lost one inside and one outside.

I had 144 in the middle of the rx-1 with no problems. I dont like putting them in the outside windows (tends to push in the corners), if your lake racing then stud the outside.

i had 144 double backers, 1.325 woody's in the 4-2 pattern with the aluminum nut. No problems, never lost or bent one and hooked up to well in my opinion for what i like. It just wouldn't slide out in the trails and I like to be able to do that. I and will only stud up the middle. Used to stud the outside and lost studs and ripped the track.

Still a little undecided whether to go 96 or 120 in the apex.

96 in not enough. Ive seen more damage with guys who understud and I would consider 96 studs on a apex very understudded. Rule of thumb, 1 stud per HP...BBY
