What's hot and what's not at the shootout


A stock turbo Cat appears to be the best bang for the buck. The 180 hp turbo Viper was not any faster.

I've yet to see the dealer prepped run numbers. Only box stock, if you can call the Viper that....
 
Stock 1100 turbo ran 11.7 at 107mph, "stock" trail turbo viper at 4.5 pounds of boost ran 11.7 at 108 mph. Dealer prep viper trail turbo was set at 5 pounds of boost where the kit will be set at and ran 11.3 at 108 mph. Dealer prep 1100 turbo had a D&D slingshot flash and exhaust (approx. 265hp) and was way way faster lol. The viper had all stock clutches with the exception of weights and I'd be willing to bet it had the clutching completely shifted out in stock form.
 
Not that it makes any difference at all but the viper trail turbo at 5 pounds of boost makes 180 hp as confirmed at dynotech. The box stock 1100 turbo makes 173 hp as confirmed by dynotech, however cat is running 10.5 pounds of boost in the stock cat turbo, more than double the boost and not quite as much hp, however the cat turbo can go from 173hp to 265hp for $800. The already $3000 trail turbo viper would take another several thousand to reach that potential and be able to run safely all day long. There was a cat 7000 turbo at the Shootout as well, 325 hp at dynotech and it ran 6.0 seconds at 112 mph in 660'. I've talked with the owner of the sled several times and as of now he is in the ballpark of $30,000 invested into the sled. And 1100 turbo could produce that same kind of power for $10-$15,000 less. The potential of the 1100 turbo is like something the other brands could only dream of, with that being said I'm very happy to own my viper!

I'd be a lot more curious to see the comparable numbers after sleds are completely "broken in", whatever that magic number may be........
 
These results really get my goat. No reason the turbo couldn't have been offered with just enough to beat the Cat. I really thought it would even with same hp. The difference in acceleration between even a stock Viper and a stock cat is huge. Cat feels boring to me compared to viper at least initially. Sound is another thing. Is no doubt the Suzuki twin is more capable of big hp but stock....embarrassing.

The turbo cat puts such a stomp on the viper/7000 motor, even when it's stock, that's it's a ridiculous comparison if you have any reasonable time on both. I own both. The 1049 is great initially out of the hole and I love it on the trail but it's no contest. Calling the old cat Zuk embarrassing stock? Please! It spanked every other new sled in stock form at the shootout by a big margin and hitting the flipper on even a stock turbo at any speed has you giggling like a school girl compared to the 1049. I'm not knocking it, I really like the Yamaha motor, but comparing it to the Cat turbo as far as power is a good chuckle.
 
Well maybe the ones you rode weren't stock. I didn't say the Suzuki was embarrassing I said the yamaha trail TURBO getting beat by by the Suzuki is embarrassing. If you think a stock cat Turbo is a exciting sled then that's fine. I don't. I find them to be like a caddy. Smooth,quiet,decievingly fast. But definitely not exciting.

Huge gains in the Viper by getting away from the stock clutching. Shagman can attest to how much faster a turbo Viper can be with correct clutching and belt, I watched him set it up from the turbo clutching it shipped with and WOW what a difference. Hope he will chime in here.
 
Lmao smooth quite deceiving fast what's next you got to ride them on the snow and in the cold weather what's not to like if you squeeze the throttle and you giggle like a schoolgirl
