Where's the snow !!

Each day you will see record high and record lows.. And those can range from the records being in the 1800's to 1900's to todays time... i agree in the earth cycling.

It looks like there are finally some small indications of a friendlier pattern for the NE showing up in models. No real Greenland block, which we generally need for sustained bitter cold, but at least some hints of a succession of short waves in late December with seasonable temps and some better heights showing up out in the Pacific NW. Fingers crossed!

I'm a firm believer in the earth's cycling...In the past 20 years, all I've heard from my elders is how much snow they used to get back in the "good ol days"...Only being 35 myself, I can't speak from experience but I look at "this day in weather history" on the NOAA website. It's quite interesting that there was MANY years in the 1920's 30's 40's etc. that posted record highs in December, January with brown Christmas after brown Christmas. It sounds like the 70's produced some damn good winters along with the early 80's. I would have to say the 90's and 00's were quite depressing but the last 3 winters have been average to above average for SE MN. So hopefully we are on an upward trend and this December is just a slow start to a winter that will last into late March.

We took all your guys snow!

Screw work I'm a kid anybody got a house out there near a good highschool... I gotta a nytro today so I come with my own sled;)

I love snow, lots of snow, pretty much one of the main reasons I live here. But there are also some downsides. I spent about 5 hours today moving snow with our skid steer and shoveling off vehicles, shoveling out windows, and shoveling off my pick up truck canopy. Took my dog for his walk tonight and snapped some more pictures. These photos are all taken at sea level.

My neighbor's rigs parked in the street while he plowed his driveway.

The corner of my street. The street sign provides some scale as to our snow depth.

The snow is bermed up on the sides of the street so our actual depth on the ground is about half that. I'd guessing we probably have around 4' of snow in untouched areas right now. Our average snowfall for a winter is 300" at sea level. I read that we normally have 80" this time of year and we were at 120" before this current storm. It is shaping up to be an excellent winter!
:letsnow:

This is really good because last winter was very cold, windy and dry. We never got the normal amount of snow and when we did get snow the wind would start gusting 70-80 mph and blow it all away. It was fricking miserible. It was one of the first times that I wanted winter to end as soon as possible. Funny how different one winter can be from another.

AKRider - why don't you just shoot my dog and bang my wife while you're at it? Jeez! Now, how far is it from WNY to Alaska? Jealous!

Yeah, enough with the I have fantastic snow pics. I mean you don't see me posting pics of my footlong do you.
