I know there are threads that refer to belts but they typically only have 3 numbers/letters designating which belt your referencing. I am new to Yamaha so want to make sure I’m getting the correct belt. My spec sheet says the belt is 8jp-17641-00. Is this the best belt to buy oem or aftermarket Right now it will be a spare. Thanks for any in put.

Yes use Yamaha factory belt. 8JP.
Some switch to another Yamaha belt 8DN which is cleaner and seem to be much more durable, however you will loose ~10% because it is a slightly longer belt.

Just tell your dealer the first 3 digits, they should know rest. 8DN or 8JP.
The Gates Carbon cord is a very nice belt that performs well. About same cost as 8JP.
the 8DN is far cheaper then all, so maybe for trail miles its smart, and you can use a dial-adjust to raise the belt above secondary like the doos, for proper deflection (will still be 3mph slow on top only)
Heard the Ultimax last longest by a few guys, costs more too.

I wish the almighty doo 391 would fit....its quite tough.Anyone ever try other belts like Ski Doo, or arctic cat i've been noticing on some cross reference their belts very similar to ours in length and width

I have the 911 clutch cover where you can adjust driven clutch width so been looking at some thicker belts

I just passed 1500 miles today on the original 8JP. It works so well, I see no reason to go away from it, even though I have a couple Ultimax's to try here. I was flogging on it today with the Hurricane 290Race tune pass after pass on the groomed trail, then out in the field in 14" of heavy snow at 8900 RPM. Thing is a beastly animal and very little heat, wear or belt dust. Seems to me the 8JP is a fantastic belt.
I don't see how some are having such problems, or feel the need to go to different belts & rollers and every trick of the week.
