Is this normal on these to have a whining noise at idle? Bought one for my son this year, even dropped it off at the dealer for a preseason setup since I didn't have time to deal with it. It ran fine all winter but the whining sound had me wondering, especially since it went through my dealers shop.

It shouldn't "whine" but it does have its own set of noises. I know I find my MP really noisy compared to my 2010 RS Venture GT. Maybe it's the gear reduction you're hearing?

Ouch, just looked at your thread. The one I have is very low miles for a 07 also. What are all the parts that need to be upgraded before I get to the point you did? Looks like a summer project.Must b an 07.

You should also spin the balancer shaft while holding something near the end as a reference to make sure it is true. Mine had a slight wobble, and the balancer shaft does change up to a different part number. Thanks for the info
Also note the nut is left-hand thread on the balancer shaft.
Just so you know gears such as in reduction that are loose whine. Tight will not whine but if too tight fail because of heat created. Every failed gear set I have seen had been real hot. Black burned and even blue evidence of heat. I believe they failed because they were to tight to one another.
Mine has always had a whistlelike whine. Sounds kinda cool!

The Phazer I am working on clearly had an abnormal whining noise. Faulty parts from new.
Gears burnt?
Just saying sound is subjective. Mine has always had a whine. 23000mi later the gears are fine. If in doubt I guess take a look at them and look for burnt gears.

This one whines enough that when he pulls up to a group everybody turns and looks to see what the heck it is. If I get some time next time I'm home I'll take a video of it
