Who is running or has gone back to Tuner ski?

8" ACE carbides on my pilots, and now running fronts on clicker 3 compression, and I have mine sitting a bit talling up front then most, and man it does not push anymore. I will go down to a 5.7 after this season as my 6.9s are near worn out after being on 2 sleds.

buddy loves the pilots Rs with ACE as they carve even better, but are a fair amt heavier effort then regular pilots. Anything else, we have tried didnt work as well.

Also guilty of never owning tuners, but that is cause I spent a few weekends with Toms sled in 17 and they just sucked IMO.

Not here to stir the pot but I think there’s a big influence on sled setup that goes with which ski you have.

I have two riding buddies with sidewinders, one with stock skis and another with pilots and they both handle good, I’m mostly behind them while on the trail and can say the stock sidewinder handles just as good or better then the sidewinder with pilots.

Just like how you always hear about the problems not the good, well one of the sidewinders that hasn’t done anything to prevent a possible breakdown has close to 12k miles and only a few blown belts and he don’t ride easy lol, also has the DT tune.

I think Fabio hit the nail on the head

Did you run the curves with snowtrackers?

Yes i tried them.
Not any better then Slimjims. In fact they may be upsetting the geometry a bit. Haven't analyzed the situation yet considering i'm trying to get ONE freakin' trouble free weekend in!
DEFINATELY NOT as good as stock tuners with Semi-Agressive SnoTrackers. At least my sled compared to my buds'.
Trav, i will be calling you tomorrow morning for a rush order. I'll let you finish your coffee then BAM!..........OCD time

THE problem with stock tuners & stock carbides is a certain situation.
I believe a certain snow condition packs between the runners causing an EXTREMELY dangerous situation that wasn't there 2 corners before.
Both me & bud only witnessed this condition a few times, but it scared the living BEJESUS out of us!
Other then the occasional flying into the trees..........stock tuners are good.
With Semi-Agressive SnoTrackers the Tuners are un-freakin-touchable in the corners with light steering, no darting & go where they are told to go.

Exactly Steve. I thought my sled was set up pretty darn good when I had them on and they really didn't feel that bad until...WOAH! what the Hell! It was random. I don't like being surprised like that.

CRAZY AIN'T IT?
I think the runners are the perfect distance apart to allow a certain mixture of snow to get packed in there so it's basically a smooth bottom of the ski.
Guys that are having no problems with stock ski & STOCK runners haven't felt this yet. Hopefully they won't be flying when this problem occurs.
When i first bought sled, I was humping a trail & commenting to myself how GOOD i thought the stock skis were. I said "all the TY guys are on crack".
Then WHOOPS! Slide job. I pulled over every minute to look what was going on. Cleared the snow out from the ski bottom like i was shoeing a horse on the side of the trail.
Problem went away for 2 days then it started so i let my bud ride it.

His face was Pale white! At least his face was........his undies were a tad on the brownish side of the color spectrum.

He did buy a Winder & put SnoTrackers on and DAMN.........that's the combo right there boys!

Exactly my experience with them too, but more often the you ran into it. Probably because I ride more in the western mountains of Maine, temps and snow are different there than northern Maine. In fairness though that was on my Viper. I ditched the tuners on day one with my Winder. As much as I loved my Curves on my Viper I dislike them on the Winder. But I need a heavier center shock spring than the LTX LE dual spring setup. That Bergstrom setup is tempting to try on the Tuners. Scott has always had good working setups for stock Yamaha skis, maybe they figured out the Tuners on this chassis.

It seems that I constantly hear that Snowtrackers solve most of the issues with stock Yamaha skis....heard the same with the Apex sleds.

I am tempted to try a set and put the stock ones on again. Not that I do much off trail but I was hoping to get a good handling ski that could be half ways good at floating. My plan for next year was to get a set of Mohawks and sell the Curves. The semi aggressive ST's would be the cheaper option......hmm...

I know one thing, if I do I better invest in the ski slips to get it into the trailer. There is a lot of metal hanging down on ST's. But there again....ski slips, more $$$.
