YAMAHA's smart move for 2010 would be ...

A Vector RTX w/FI (Nytro Motor) would suite me just fine!

Thats basically the current apex. I think that would be a bad move for Yamaha. I would be interested in the new FI 125 hp engine but putting a nytro engine in a vector would basically be down grading the Apex. The only way they could justify that is with a 170+ hp engine to replace the apex. Even still I think people would be dissappointed if they didnt have the 150 hp option. As much as everyone talks about wanting a big muscle sled the average person will still go for the 150 (or 140 in the case of the nytro being the only option.)

I'm sure i am in the minority here but i think they need to focus on the 600 or 120hp class (or whatever it's being called now). i know you can get a phazer, but i'd like a little more juice, and i just can't justify spending 10 grand for a nytro...i'd really like to get 2 sleds so we can take the whole family out for a ride on a regular basis, dropping 20+ grand for sleds and gear is something i just can't do. But i could maybe spend 12-14. i've ridden the phazer and it's cool i just don't think i would be happy with it forever, as nice as the vector is i would like a 4 stroke with 600 class power, and a reasonable price tag...(shift, ss).

hmmm FX-1.....

Nytro FX chassis.....

First 4 cylinder was called the RX - 1, the bike motor is an R1

My guess is the apex motor in the FX chassis.

The chassis of the Apex is not the issue with the weight. If they want to be competetive against the big bores, they need to lighten it up and the only way to do it is to run the 3 cylinder, but on a 1300 or 1400cc level to have about 170hp and be light weight. The 4 cylinder is just to heavy.

I am currently very happy with the Apex Mountain I have. I agree it could shed some pounds but maybe some of you complaining about the suspension should do the same as well. I think the ski's on the mountain sleds anyway work just fine. I think a factory turbo/supercharger would be the shizzle especially to compete with the Z1 turbo. Just my $.02

1. More power in the Phazer (100 at least)
1a. XTX or 136" skid for the Phazer.

2. More Durability in the skids - Very disappointed that I've had to repair/replace the skids on my last two Yamahas - they need some heft there.

3. Grease zerk setup for drive shaft bearing

4. Stop categorizing sled models by ASSUMED trail conditions - just make a setup that will hold up to them all because trail conditions change.

I could care less about weight. If I wanted to repair a lightweight 4-stroke snowmobile, I'd buy a Ski-Doo. JM2C's

The 120 hp is all ready in the Apex chassis - Thats your Apex down grade, putting the 3 holer 130 hp FI in the Vector with the upgraded suspension would be a huge upgrade for it. - My bet would be an increased market for the machine IMO.

In my opinion all the sled makers are digging their own graves just like the auto industry. they are pricing themselves out of the market. There are more people out there riding that cant afford a new sled than there are people with the extra cash to buy one. every industry in this country and many others dont look at the people responsible for their success. most people that ride are not wealthy. IMAO

The 4 cylinder is only ~8-10lbs heavier then the Nytro engine if i'm not mistaken. The difference between the Apex and the old Vector engine is even smaller, only a couple of lbs. And the new Ski Doo 3 cylinder fourstroke is heavier then the Apex engine. It weighs in at 125.4 lbs if i remember it correctly.

Someone said that the weight is not in the chassis.
The Doo 1200 motor is heavier than both the Apex and Nytro motor, and still the XR is lighter than the nytro.
Id say yamaha could loose some weight in the chassis.
The XR 1200 motor weighs 58kg.(127,6lbs)

Yamaha needs to loose some weight on every part of the sled. Front-end, chassis, rear skid...

Just compare the weight savings for the Timbersled skid:

http://www.timbersled.com/MtnTamer.htm

FX MTN: 38 lbs

XP: 15 lbs

You'll save 8lbs on the brackets alone which deserves some kind of medal in my book. 8 lbs on the drop brackets, what are the standard ones made of, lead ?

Yamaha's priority Alpha 1 is to make lighter sleds. My '06 Attak's great but WTH, she's some heavy. A 50# minimum weight reduction would be nice.

My guess is you will NEVER see Yamaha jeopardize quality for weight reduction. What I mean is dont count on a 450 lb, 170ish HP 4 stroke. While I am sure Yamaha could build it, the wont. It would be to expensive. Frankly if Yamaha could shed say 50ish lbs from the current Apex and deliver us 5-10% more HP, they will have a winner in my eyes.
