Ow30 and 0w40 have the identical cold start advantage as they are both 0 weight when cold. The 40 is a heavier weight at operating temperature.Dealer is adamant about cold starting advantages of 0 40. Will stay with that. More concerned with reliability and longevity than a few mph on top end

Been looking at different oils lately. Is AMSOIL signature series all they claim it to be? I’m leaning pretty hard towards it in the 0w30 flavour.

Yamaha wants the semi synthetic 0w30 oil for the first 3000 km then full synthetic for proper engine brake inGood info here guys! I probably would not have run 40w anyways but I will likely be changing the oil this fall on my Winder and it will get full synthetic 5W-30. I ran the Mobil One 5w-30 for several years in my Attak with great success.
Funny the Penzoil was ranked 1st but yes it's synthetic so different than regular Penzoil..... always stayed away from their non synthetic oil back in the day. Totally different subject but I felt that way with Quaker State too with the waxy paraffin base. I had two vehicles give me trouble with Quaker State with engine sludge build up and I always changed oil and filter every 3,000 miles.

I'm referring to this
While the semi-synthetic 0W-30 is a very good oil, as you pointed out it has a cold pumpability specification down to -40 F. The full-synthetic 0W-40 will perform even better in cold conditions and has a cold pumpability specification of down to -60 F. That means whatever temperature it is outside when you go to start your sled, the full-synthetic will start flowing quicker and easier.

The 40 weight has a colder pouring temperature hence better oil circulation at start upOw30 and 0w40 have the identical cold start advantage as they are both 0 weight when cold. The 40 is a heavier weight at operating temperature.

Cold pumping ability of these synthetic oils that start at 0 weight is amazing to say the least. I switched my John Deere 2355 diesel over to their 0W40 full synthetic winter oil to improve cold starts during winter and the difference in cranking speed was incredible.

0w vs 5w FULL SYNTHETIC for cold weather starting is a non issue as synthetics flow so well. I would NEVER run a semi synth in these HOT turbo engines myself.
Only time i'd be worried about cold starts with 5w is if I was starting the engine is minus 40 on a daily basis. For 90% of us we are starting these engines in -11 to 32f(-24c to 0c) and in these temps you wont ever have flow issues with a 5w. But if I were living where it was minus 40 much of the time, then I would run 0w.
5w30 M1 for me for many years in many vehicles/toys. Top rated always and easy to find any walmart for 22-26$.

Its not our preference to run 0w30 semi synthetic but according to yamaha we need to run it for them to honor our 20 year warranty they said they have done extreme testing and this oil is the best for the sidewinder, the dealer says we need to run it for the first 3000km for proper engine break in then switch to full synthetic, i'm with you and run the cheap walmart oil in everything else0w vs 5w FULL SYNTHETIC for cold weather starting is a non issue as synthetics flow so well. I have to try that in my tractor next winter since 5w30 cranks real slow and long before it starts.Cold pumping ability of these synthetic oils that start at 0 weight is amazing to say the least. Mine was done by the dealer (Pat's) every time by the previous owner, I assume they used semi-Synthetic Yamalube, most do. It had 4401 miles on it when I bought it in late December of 2018. I didn't quite get 1000 miles on it this winter, I think it has 5200 and change now. I'd say it's ready for full synthetic at this point.

500 miles for whatever Yamaha puts in new. Then it’s 0/30 full synthetic Klotz ESTORLIN based oil with Lots of zinc. Zinc content is important. Imo.
Not saying you have to buy oil with the highest zinc but some oils have more then others.
