Everyone who's disappointed in the phazer were all caught up in the hype over hp that went on before the release. Just looked at the specs on yamaha Canada and this thing looks far from entry level. 16" rear travel, knock sensor, 11 250rpm, 454lbs. Even at 80hp, the torque this thing should generate will be more than fun.
It all depends on how much of your riding time is spent at the high end of your speedo when you do your favorite type of riding. Me, riding cross-country, I see 80mph+ maybe twice in 60km and then for very short elapses. Doing 80+ down a pond and shooting for a hole in the trees only as wide as your ski stance, I wouldn't miss the extra hp.
But alot of buyers will get turned off by 80hp. To sold this sled must be riden.

sounds stupid I know but the thing that made me the happiest was something so simple its stupid.
Call me anal but I DESPISE the snow flaps on the Yamaha sleds, the Apex is a beautiful machine but the damn flap looks like its off a 80's model year.
NEW FLAP FOR 07!!
I'll be ordering one for my 06

Just a guess, but maybe they were thinking ENTRY LEVEL!!!!!!!!!
Entry level sleds are NOT 100 - 120 HP. Unfortunately, they are also NOT over $6,000 US.... That's my only real beef here. A lot of money for a sled for the kids to ride around on.

You really don't know what you're talking about.
80 HP sleds, commonplce in the 70's. LMAO
Care to guess how many Fan cools that all the brands sell.......and they're all around 80HP...or less.I'll give you a hint....they all wouldn't be competing with each other unless this number wasn't LARGE.
Why do you think Doo came out with their Free-Style?

I think Yamaha's new / updated 07 lineup is pretty decent, I am not sold on the phazer, but that is just me, I know plenty of guys that would buy it in a heartbeat, but i am more for the higher hp sleds, But that REV in the earlier post sure looks tempting

WHAT?!?!? Quite a few sleds made by the other 3 manufactures are under 100HP.
Where do I start...
Polaris FS non turbo
Polaris 550 Fan
Polaris Indy 500
Ski-Doo Fan Rev
Ski-Doo Freestyle with a whopping 370 fan.
Arctic Cat Sabercat 500
Arctic Cat 570, 440, 370
Arctic Cat 4 stroke non turbo
and Arctic Cats 4 stroke with Turbo might as well be under 100HP with the weight and turbo lag.
And that is just off the top of my head. I bet there are more. I have said it before and I will say it again. Yamaha will NEVER be number 1 in marketshare if they don't offer a sled in this smaller class. The new Phazer will lead the under 100HP class. It will set a new standard. Just wait. This thing is going to be pretty big. Maybe not as big as the first Phazer was because times have changed, but it is going to really take a chunk of the marketshare in the trail sport category.
They now offer the best sled in the under 100HP class and there are a lot of sleds sold in the under 100HP class. Just rental operators alone buy a good chunk of these sleds and so do families or people starting the sport. How about adding another fun sled for the family?
This sled will be a much better choice then fan-cooled or small liquid 2 strokes for the rental operators.
Your posts make no sense.

I agree. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised when they get passed on a rough trail or in a ditch by one of these things.

The are very radical looking.... almost too much ... Not enough wind resistance and no handle bar hooks (according to maximum sled)
That large winshield looks like the Alien from ALIENS! and the lack of a windshield on the FX looks really cold..
10 inches of front suspenson and 16 inches of rear has my attention... but it looks like a cat suspenson.. and i agree whats with not having a monoshock in it..?

Entry level sleds also do not offer everything the Phazer does. They are usually equipped with disposable fan cooled 2 stroke engines and don't have the technology, fit and finish, or the suspension this will offer.
Sure it will be more money, but the sled is a much better value then any offered in this class. I don't think this is just a "kid's sled" like some are trying to call it. I think you will see a lot of adults enjoying themselves on this sled.
One look at this thing and it has fun on the trail or in the ditch written all over it!

I only did a comparision on the 07 GT against the 06 GT. I wonder how the narrower ski stance and taller overall height will effect how the 07 handles? I didn't see that many changes to justify a 300 dollar price increase??? Not so sure about this new line up. I thought some of the color schemes were pretty bad, is that pink on the nitro??? I guess Yamaha will wait till 08 or 09 to shake up the industry again. Maybe alittle more HP 140 class and 170 class.

Overall height would be the new windy I imagine.
What is the stance difference?
