Boondockerbrad if engine is turning over with starter the starter is not the issue. If starter housing isn't clocked right it either doesn't spin or spins backwards. Neither condition will turn motor over since OneWay bearing will not allow starter to turn motor backwards. It will just humm. Have you checked crank position sensor yet?
