07 Phazer decompression froze? HELP

Now you are back to the valves. This thing could just have rust on valves. Check clearances.

I just did the head gasket on my Venture GT 3 holer. I had the same issue of getting the marks on the magneto to align on | instead of ||. Reading a lot on the forums said that it was normal that it aligns with || instead. Not sure why there is this discrepancy with the manual but it was mentioned that chain stretch may be responsible.

If your chain is tight and it all aligns except for the ||, I would call it good. Do check you valve clearances as I found mine were all on the tight side needing more clearance but then mine had 15k km.

If all you have for the leakdown tester is that compression tester hose, take the shreader valve out.

Did you try disconnecting your exhaust for possible blockage there?

Well boys, this one got me..

leakdown test no good. Only checked one cylinder at tdc but the only place I can hear some air is coming from crankcase oil drain screw. I had the valve cover off while performing the test. Cam lobes opposing each other, attached is a pic of what my timing looks like

Stuck rings. I would drain oil at engine then try trans fluid in the spark plug holes. Let it sit a day or two. Might free the rings unless really bad. Remember to turn engine over before putting plugs back in. Dont want to Hyrolock it. Right way would be to just pull engine and head but damage if any would be done already. It never had a Turbo on it right?

Doesn’t appear to have had a turbo. The owner was older and apparently parked it for a long time. However, who knows the whole story.


Oil is drained, I’ll soak the pistons in trans fluid tomorrow night and see what happens.


I know the timing mark SHOULD be on “I”... do you think this is more than acceptable?

What percentage was the leak down result?

It’s two pressure(psi) gauges and didn’t do the math. Around 80-90psi inlet but wouldn’t hold more than 30.... Very poor

I could only check 2 valve clearances because my gages are too wide.. definitely will be picking up a different set

I'd try something more aggressive on the rings. Get a can of ACDelco Top Engine Cleaner, put the pistons at about halfway down and fill the cylinders with the foam. After soaking a day, rotate the engine and repeat. This stuff is super aggressive and if this doesn't free the rings, nothing will. It will also clean up your combustion chambers. You will need an oil change if it does run after this.

I had bought a parts Phazer once that had severely overheated. So much so that some of the plastic parts had melted. It also leaked at the rings with 0 compression. I never opened it and sold it to someone to rebuild. It looked like the front heat exchanger was damaged and lost all its coolant at once. It was repaired but the damage to the engine was done. With the temperature sensor away from the engine block, I can see this happening with no coolant to let the sensor know it's hot. Stupid design really as such a sensor should be in the block. Check to see if the heat exchanger or radiator was damaged. Check on sensors on the block for melted plastic. If you have one, put a small boroscope in there and check the condition of the pistons and walls. However I don't think there are boroscopes small enough to fit these plug holes.

Thank you for all the replies. I’ll try the Delco cleaner. I tried putting a snap on borescope in there but the hole is too small and photo quality sucks imo. My buddy could’ve bought a better quality scope for wayyyy cheaper lol.

the heat exchanger appeared fine but I’ll take a closer look at things later this evening

I found I have the same issue. I pulled the valve cover and find that when the motor is turning over, the decompressor is not disengaging. Rpms on turnover are 270. I was getting 35 and 40psi on a good gauge. About to somehow lock the weights out so I can get a true compression. Might need to new springs or lighten the weights.
