So, what is Yamaha Canada saying. They should just give you a new motor, since it's supposed to be bulletproof.

Yamaha Canada...well...do you mean Chris Reid? Check out the blog...

LOL that was awesome

I have an update;

Upon internal engine inspection, there is no damage to the valves or pistons. The fact that the timing chain tensioner failed during a start up attempt and not under load is pure luck and we're dealing with a far less serious problem than it could have been.

$800 of parts are now on order and the tensioner will be replaced. It will take about 8 hours labour, with 4 hours already invested. The warranty request is in. Hopefully no parts are back ordered.

No one has hazard a guess as to why this failure occured. It seems unusual for this year/model of engine.

Got my fingers crossed for speedy part delivery and repair time.

Now if only I could track down a replacement rear shock for my 2007 Phazer Mountain Lite that is rebuildable with compression adjustment. I've been on the phone daily with dealers across Canada and Ike has been on the phone daily over sea's. I think i'm going to be stuck replacing it with the OEM shock.

Öhlins has shocks for the mountain lite.
I just sent an email to the swedish distributor of Öhlins asking for partnr for öhlins shocks.
If i get a reply i will let you know.

Getting my hands on one in North America in a timely fashion is the issue. The North American listing doesn't show anything available.

if they cannot get to you before you leave, you can ship them here and i will get them to you. even give you a hand on installation if needed.

I just got an answer from the guy who owns the Phazer in the picture i posted. The shocks are from a 05 RS VECTOR. He says he had to do some grinding on them to make them fit.

Good luck with the repair Yellowknife, hope you're back riding soon, do ya have good snow?

Yeah we have great snow.

I checked out Carver - They're telling me to use the same shocks they supply for the Phazer short tracks, they said they think they will fit, but nobody has tried it.

So I went to do some more measurements tonight and took the rear shock out...funny, the rear shock looks fine, good pressure...so I dig around some more, and found the real problem...

Bracket Number 2 below (#27) is what is busted! I couldn't see it until I removed the skid tonight!
