I did a search and came up with mixed results/ only talk about '06-07 models.

Can I "hotwire" the grips on this '09 I just bought like I did on my '06 when I had it or not?

I thought Yamaha got their $hit together on '08-up sleds as far as hotgrips go, but these on my '09 SUCK!! Hell, the grips on my kids '07 Vector get hotter.

Yamaha fixed the wiring in 07 so no miracle quick fix for your 09.
What I did was purchased a grip and heater set from my Yamaha dealer ( RSI). Installed an insulating layer between the bar and heater pad. Some use a thin layer of cork. I used some electrical heat shrink tubing.
This helps the heat from soaking into the metal of the bars so there is more heat available for your hands.
And the best addition to this is Yamaheaters

So the bars are prioritized before our hands, awesome. Lol.

And that's what I was a bit confused about, the wiring. I couldn't find a conclusive answer.

I have and use gauntlets if need be, but they can be cumbersome for anything more than casual trail cruising. If it's super cold, I'll use the gauntlets regardless.

By the time I'd tear them apart, insulate, & replace with new elements, I might as well just go the Yamaheater route.

Thanks for the info Steiner.
