Went for my first ride on my Vector today, and only got 12 miles per gallon. I was riding with a 07 F8, 06 F7, and an 01 XC 600 and after 118 miles the 2 cats took $18 and the Polaris took $20. And my Vector took $23. We went in to a restaurant , and there were 4 other guys with Vectors that pulled up so I asked them and they started from the same point as us and they all used $12.
The sled seems to run fine, it pulls really good. The only thing I noticed is that it idles at 2300 rpm and I think it is supposed to be at 1500.
Anyone have any ideas as to where to look for the problem? I had the air box off at the start of the year to check the battery, is there something that I could have missed when putting the air box back on? I double checked the line from the box to the crankcase, and its on.
Thanks in advance

i think a brand non broke in engine might get bad milage, buts pretty low for sure. just turn the idle down when its warmed up.

clutch s/b OK then. At 3600 my PG went into the tank. Worn out weights and bushings. Put new ones on and went bacl to 17 MPG instantly.
Like another poster said....airbox not reinstalled properly? Carb(s) gummed up?
Let us know what you find.

Our 06 vector has about 1000 miles on it and gets about 22 mpg with my wife driving and about 19 with me driving it. Something is wrong on yours. Do you have the choke all the way off. Having the choke partially on will also raise the RPM's. Maybe your choke isn't adjusted right.

If the carbs were gummed up would it still run and pull so good?

Was the mileage good before you removed the air box? If it was, then you have some type of an air leak which would also explain the higher idle. Our o5 rage with 3000 miles on it would get 20+ mpg unless I rode it instead of my wife but either way it would always get better mileage than anyone else .

I removed the air box right after I bought it ( to do pre season maint.) so I never rode the sled before that, but the guy I bought it from mentioned that he used far less gas than his buddies.

Did it idle at 2300 before you took the air box off?
I am not a mechanic but I think that whatever is causing the high idle is also causing the bad mileage. The choke or an air leak are likely the problem.
Just grasping at straws now but is the track too tight or it could have a small gas leak.
That is all I got. hope it helps. good luck.

All,
Where would there be an "air leak"? Around the carb boots? Or??? My Vector has NEVER approached 20 MPG like others, even with the old No Active stock skid that I had on for one season.

Thanks Wackattack, I'm going to go after the choke and air box like you suggested. I'm also going to pull off the belt and check the drag on the track.

There's lots of drag on the track. All you can go by (IMO) is run the track as loose as you can b4 it ratchets.

the airbox can be re-installed thinking that its all the way in and around the carb but its a pain to line up,sometimes you think you have it on right but its actually not even close, you have to take a look at it closely,by the way,my new vector hit 20 mpg on its first tank,i was taking it easy cuz of break in,im sure its capable of betterGroomerdriver said:All,
