I don't think they were assembled wrong, I think that is the way Yamaha wanted them. But I think the way Yamaha wants them is wrong. I agree that they should be on the unloaded side. This is a problem I am seeing a lot of with rebuilding these Yamaha primaries. It's probably 30% of Yamaha primaries that come in for service.
They were assembled wrong from factory.
The O-rings & O-ring sliders are supposed to be on the opposite side of the spyder (non-torque side). Non-O-ring sliders are supposed to be on the torque side.
Those buttons start turning side ways too easily. This is an area that I service a lot. I often replace these and also use the 8BW spider shim to keep clearance snug.
Also, some of the cheapy rebuild kits that can be bought(like from Royal D), use a low quality material for these slider buttons and will not stand up, especially in a four stroke. The Yamaha buttons are not cheap, but have to be used.
Like I said they were ok before this ride but it was a very long hard pull repeatedly for 30mi in very bad conditions for load. Happened on one long stretch.
I now have 1010mi on this year with no failures. Going to go through skid to check over and probably put quiet exhaust back on if river is bad this weekend. Did hit 106mph gps 113speedo last weekend ride so happy but goal is still 110gps and video. Highlight of trip was the powder at Lake of Clouds and Moose encounter on trail 5 I had and all of my group got to see. Great trip!
Gps trail 12. Thunder Products Clutching Rocks!
This week Been getting some miles in on river 5 min from home. Tried for 110mph twice and came close 108gps but still spinning since not enough snow. Had a few setbacks and had to quit speedruns. New track ordered along with studs. Always something holding me back from that 110mph goal! Anyway wanted to save the track for this weekend. Trailering to Sheboygan about 1/2hr away and riding down to IL sat coming back Sunday. FIB run! Yup going to use your snow buds! Can’t wait!

Cross that off Bucket list. Right about 600mi last weekend and a big adventure. Was more on my Facebook. Highlights were kind of getting lost in IL middle of snowstorm in dark and finding a awesome bar in Brodhead,WI with the friendliest people who all offered a place to stay night and found us a really nice B and B. Snow and trails in IL were awesome definitely worth it if snow sticks going back this year yet!

Glad you made it, and made it back.
Would like to spend more time there. Loved it.Glad you made it, and made it back.
Latest adventure was at TY member Jon Lafaontains cabin with Jim and Clutchmaster too. Biggest deal was cold. Holy cow -24f in morning. Jon and I rode both days but kept it sane. These temps could be dangerous! Sat at rode to Bents camp race. Jon was in 120mph range and right up there with winner. I was in 650mod and 2 mph slower than the winner. Was another Yamaha not sure which one. Crazy women in bikinis! Some awesome mod sleds. Lot of sidewinders and old Srx that I miss very much sometimes. Yamaha had great showing there for sure.
Sunday Jon and I rode a loop of 2,11 and 5. Cold but just awesome trails. Perfect conditions . Viper and I were one. She was reading my mind every corner and singing while doing it. Perfect ride! Finally hit 20000mi too. She is experienced and refined. No issues. Another great weekend with great friends!
