So I found a 2009 Apex with 7800 miles on that I can get for around $2500. One problem is the exhaust donuts are bad. How much to change them out if I do the work myself? What other items are issues on this sled or I should look at before purchasing?

Just the basic maintenance items, Bogey wheels, axle wheels, oil and filter and chain case oil changes. Over all condition tells the whole story of the sled, the price seems to cheap to just be exhaust donuts.

Does anyone have a copy of the owners manual for this sled?

And not just the owner's manual but the service manuals as well. Between the service manual and the profound knowledge of the members on this site will help you self maintain the sled if you end up purchasing it.

So I was told that a common issue on this sled is the speedo bearing and jackshaft bearings. I found a video showing how to do the speedo bearing and looks pretty easy to do. Does anyone have a video of doing the jackshaft bearing as I can't find one. also do you recommend going with the brace exhaust donuts over the stock ones?

Just remove the seal on jackshaft bearing and clean out the old grease and replace with new grease every season, that bearing will last alot of miles, 17,700 on my last Apex and never replaced the bearing. I use the OEM graphite exhaust gaskets.

Were is this bearing located at? Do I need to do both sides?

chaincase side runs in oil. if oil is good they last a long time. did mine at 12000 mi on the 11 because i wanted to.

I would closely inspect the track. Is it original? Is it studded ? Are there any tear outs?
If any studs are missing closely inspect the front heat exchanger for damage.

Ok so I just purchased the sled. $2300 for the sled so I think I got a good deal. Sled looks to be in good condition but plan on doing the following

  • Remove rear suspension and do a complete inspection and replace any bad parts
  • Repair exhaust donuts
  • Oil change and filter
  • New spark plugs
  • Change chain case oil
  • Replace/inspect speedo bearing
  • Replace/inspect jackshaft bearing
  • Replace/inspect drive shaft bearings
  • Install replacement mud flap (missing)
  • Touch up a few paint scratches
  • Clean Primary and secondary clutches
  • Replace primary and secondary clutch springs
  • Flush antifreeze
  • General inspection of complete sled

Additional future items

  1. Install tall windshield
  2. Stud track
  3. Rebuild shocks
  4. LED headlight bulbs
