Looking to upgrade from a 2005 Warrior and have settled on a 2011 Apex. (Would like power steering and EXup) Is the mega float shock a better ride than the normal mono? Which one is better in the bumps? Which is going to give me less problems? Just looking for opinions as I have not ridden both.

Bud has a 2011 Apex SE and it rides well just need to find out what air pressure is best for you. He rebuilt all the air shocks at 10.000 miles. I had a 2007 Attak GT now on 2012 Apex XTX and put on enough miles on my buds SE to make comparos and the EPS is the single best improvement the air or gas/oil shock monos were both pretty good in studders and mega air will bottom less. To adjust air shocks ideally you should have the sled jacked up which can be a pita but adjusting the mono spring length was no picnic either. Temp changes can affect air pressure too so know that if sled in and out of heated area best to keep her cold if you can. Once mega air is adjusted it rides very well but I preferred the EC Oline mono shock for on the fly adjustment. I don't think you would be unhappy with SE just need to learn the Mega ins and outs.

I agree with Whitedust.
I had an 11 Apex SE and now have a 13 with the Megafloat.
I would say The Megafloat is the better shock ridden fast in smaller bumps than the standard.
The 2011 SE beat all the other brands in a real world test of suspension & handling on a closed course by one of the snowmobile mags in 2011 believe it or not so it is pretty darn good. [They couldn't believe it either]

If you buy the SE and are unhappy or have issues, the air shock can be replaced with a standard mono shock 'springer".

For trail riding the standard mono with the tunnel adjustment can't be beat, way better ride in all trail conditions...
Search this subject you will find lots of good info favouring the standard apex...

I hate the Mega Float.. never again will I put the pile of crap in my Apex. I could get it to ride great but then it would bottom hard in the g-outs. Then crank up the pressure to stop the bottoming out and then it road like a lumber wagon even after I had Hygear Re-valve it.

Agreed! I have setup my bud's '12 SE. When set up for the proper weight of the rider it rides excellent in the small bumps and stutters. Hit anything bigger than that and it bottoms out. Crank up the pressure so you don't bottom out and it turns into a bucking bronco.
When the trail gets rough he always bugs me to switch sleds. My Attak has the factory shock that has been revalved and a multi rate spring. Rides better overall than the Mega.
This setup works so well for me that I have set the RA on the shock in the middle and have deleted the dial from the tunnel.

First paragraph of what Steiner said is spot on... that's the best way to describe the mega float ...

I have a 06 apex and did a re-valve and big boy spring. It rides totally different than it did stock. Yes I have rode vipers and think that they ride great with a different seating position but I'm a apex guy and have just over 10,000 miles of smiles under my belt with this sled. All I can and will say I wish I would have done the re-valve sooner. I had the privilege of riding all the viper March of 14 through TY. At the end of the ride I talked with Tom in the parking lot. I said that I need a tall shield as it was cold that day. I need a higher seat or ride height and I really need to do something about the ride. He suggested that I have a re-valve and I did. I also got a WRP seat and tall screen. If I had to do it over I would have done this sooner and I would have used the factory seat skin. I can't speak for the meg shock but a seat up coil over mono is nothing to bat a eye at. Don't get me wrong newer is always better but in my opinion I will run mine for another 10k if I was in a position to upgrade I'd be looking at a winder at some point. That being said I don't see that happening for another 3 years or so besides at that point I will no what I want with it and my apex will remain apart of my fleet.

Thanks for all the replies. From the feedback that I received I am opting for the 2011 with the normal mono suspension. Only has 1900 miles on it and it is in great shape. Hopefully a huge upgrade in ride over my 05 Warrior. Thanks again

Does anyone know if the 2011+ mono shock is the same length as the 06-10 years? I have a friend with a 2012 SE with Fox Floats all around and I am working on talking him into GYTR fronts and a standard mono shock for the rear with a revalve and Hygear spring setup. I think he would be happier overall. I have access to an 06-10 mono shock and I am wondering if it will work in the 2012 128" Mono II skid (with a manual adjuster on the shock, not the tunnel mounted one).

Quicknqueation about the same shock. I also have a 2011 with mega fox.. Took it all apart to have it painted up. The mega is at 150lbs. I can't push it in at all.. Just way too stiff. I assume this is normal? And other grey piston/shock not sure what it's called I can just pull it in and out with next to no resistance. Is this normal? I understand it's to put more or less weight on the skis
