2016 Vector reviews

The reason Ulmer backed down because of the extra cost. They are faster with diffrent rollers
No matter who's kit you buy you still have to know how to fine tune to get the full benefits out of it.
I'm talking all around here, corner to corner, drag racing, backshift, and top end.

The reason you don't see them posting is because of people like you.I use to help many people on here until I got fed up with people like you.The last few years I don't help many people unless they pm me. We have lost many good tuners and people with good advice over the years on here which is unfortunate.
This is my last post as I have more respect for the site than this.

:rofl:Didn't expect this thread to turn into this!

My comments to GW, I stand behind them. The Vector, although it weighs more than the Viper, is still quicker across a lake even with the same motor. I have very little riding time on a Viper but imo, the Vector, once broken in, around a 1000-1500 miles, is the faster sled of the 2 despite having the less H/P motor.

But all that being said, I don't think GW gives one iota about what is quicker across a lake, he is looking for a long distant trail cruiser and I think the Vector fits his needs the best.

Irv - the Vector has how many less HP than the Viper? If you ran a similar spec'd Vector and Viper (in stock form) across a lake how much difference in GPS speed do you think you'd see? 2, 5, 10, 20?

"People like you" that's funny. I'm going to guess that 95% of Vector riders are not "uber tech tuners" like you 116. We ride 'em and maintain them and just keep on doing the same thing. If you feel offended by somebody differing strongly with you, after you called them out, basically saying they (me) are lying, ...you have the right to feel that way. Go ask Mr. Sled to start a forum such as "high performance Vector/Venture tuning". Those who are interested can be steered that way.

.

My mistake, I was thinking of my Vector with a 120 H/P and the Nytro motor the Viper uses at 130 H/P.
Guess their both identical now and run the exact same H/P?

In this vid, at 4:22 ish, they mention the Vector being faster across the lake than the Viper. They don't say by how much, but it is faster enough they said Yamaha should look at this issue, especially since the Viper is lighter.

I love the wifes 2010 RS V LTX. But it doesn't seem as smooth or quiet as my Attaks are. I wanted to try a newer one at the demos this past winter but couldn't get there. I don't know if the wife messed it up when she rolled it. That was a long time about. Maybe 5k miles at least. Everything is wearing ok. so who knows. Could be the fully clipped track and extrovert drivers that are OEM ..
If I rode a new one and liked it I might by one instead of a Apex XTX. Her's has plenty of balls for me and is cheaper, easy to change oil, etc. Doesn't use oil. Both my Attaks do.

If they are so poorly clutched why did Ulmer back down his offerings from 3 stages to just 1? Why arent' Ulmer, Schmidt, Hauck, etc. screaming about the gains to be made with their kits? Because for us regular trail riders the corner to corner acceleration gain aren't worth the money.

Actually, the only reason I went from 3 stages of Vector clutch kits to just a single stage, was due to demand. I sold very few of the Stage 1 and Stage 2 kits. It all comes down to how much inventory you have on the shelf and varying combinations make for more inventory = more investment, it made sense for us to nix the Stage 1 kit (helix and primary spring back in the day) and the Stage 2 kit (primary spring and weights only) and now we only offer a full kit (primary spring, weights, and helix). The performance gain from clutching, is actually quite impressive, especially when paired with a intake mod, header, and Power Commander on the fuel injected Vector models. They will run with an Apex to 100 mph when setup with that combination. The basic fact is that 90% of Vector riders aren't huge performance enthusiasts, so we don't spend a ton of dollars on product development for that particular sled, but the products we have work very very well.

As I suspected you simply adjusted to market demand as any good business would do.

Add a Excel header and intake then a PC to a Vector?...might as well buy an Apex. Been saying this for a long time.

Irv - was wondering if you were comparing it to a carb'd 973 Vector. All good here. :)

Some guys like to beat their buddies with the "underdog" sled! Heck, even had a customer with the old carb Vector that we did a supercharger for, 7 lbs of boost was 185 hp and I'm pretty sure he took more than a few peoples cash when he pulled up beside them to race! ;)!:sled1:

I can say I have splurged on Mr Ulmers Clutch kit for my Vector. After fixing my Exhaust system I'm happy to report it got me 4/5 mph top end over the old setup! And it was very smooth power very deceiving! My whole reason was my Brother picked up a 2015 1200 Renegade and I couldn't let him smoke me across the lake. LOL. I can tell you he didn't beat me by much and his new track seemed to be his only advantage because he could hookup better. The only reason I keep modding my sled a little every year is because Yamaha's are so reliable...

What did he Doo to his Gade that he didn't tell you? A stock 1200 Gade should not smoke a stock EFI Vector.

I wish I had the EFI Vector ! Mine is just the lowly 2009 LTX with the carbs. The modding is over with this one. I'm actively looking for a new ride but can't find just what I want.
Might just keep the old girl one more year and look to the new 2017 coming out. Unless I find that deal that I can't pass up !

Has anyone been out riding the new Vector X-TX yet? Curious to how the single shot rear suspension performs.

If anyone is interested in going back to the non-tuner skis like that was talked about on here I am selling my new original skis with new carbides from my 2013 Vector.

I have a carbed sled, too. I also have Ulmer's clutch kit, it is by far the best mod on my sled, well maybe the Yamaheaters are my favorite addition when it is really cold! The stock clutching is pretty soft on these sleds. The clutches slip a lot and they don't upshift quick enough at part throttle. The clutch kit feels like it adds at least 10% more power to the track, and it may. Then last year I added the Excel header and geared down to 20/39 gearing. Now it just spins the track all of the time without studs. It seems to put down a lot more torque to the track, but without studs it is probably wasted hp. So I would say that for just a good trail riding experience the clutch kit alone is a good way to go. I'm sorta picky about clutch performance, always have been.

This year I will get to compare the Soft start spring from BOP and the Ulmer clutch kit. I went and bought a 2008 Vector shorty as a backup sled . I kept the shorter windshield on the 08 and installed the Kimpex Arrows and bigger idler wheels Only clutching I did was the soft start spring along with a good cleaning. My 09 has the grandpa monster windshield and 7" powder hound ski's with bigger idlers along with the Ulmer Clutch kit. I can tell you with the big windshield and the dual keel Arrows I lost 6-7 mph top end .

I really understand these Vectors are trail model sleds but who doesn't like a little more top end and snap off the start.
