I have something that has not been mentioned in here before. Yamaha has there own line of dirt bikes so It could be very possible for them to come out with their own snow bike setup. I know theres not many people on this site that ride them but I feel like Yamaha could design something without having a ton of time into it since they don't have to design like 2/3 of it because its already down. I know out west the snow bike is really growing in popularity. This is just a thought since nothing new has been said in awhile.
yamaha has already designed a snowbike setup!!!https://sleddermag.com/yamaha-camso-dts-partnership/

I do not want to see snow bikes on our groomed trails, (legally not allowed) we have enough issues with the backpacker kid standing and flipping the throttle every few minutes and causing the moguls on our trails.
Last year near pine stump we were taking a break and a huge group of these bikes came by and the narrow track on the bikes was rutting the trails like crazy.
I was told they are not allowed on the groomed trails however they were doing what they want like the people who go off trail and run loud cans when told not to.

I was more so thinking about the mountains. I really don't see a use for them to be trail riding as I think it would be a bit boring and probably kinda hard to ride.

Never rode in deep powder in the mountains, would like to give it a try but love groomed trail riding.
Seems like a snow bike would be hard to use since wide long track seems to be needed to stay on top of the powder. At least that is what I see in the UP with the wanabe mountain riders with their super long 3" paddle track on the groomed trails.
:dunno:

Snow bikes are a bit different when it comes to deep snow. Because they are half the weight or less of a sled they don't need much track to help float them. Also they sit up much higher so there is less drag in the snow. I had the same thinking as you when they first showed up but when I rode one out west last year I was actually pretty surprised how easy it was to ride and how well it went through the snow. I don't think I would own one just because I wouldn't have a use for it in Minnesota but it was fun the say the least.

Yeah I know. I was more so thinking about the mountain segment.

Illegal in Minnesota if it was an adapted vehicle that was originally not designed for snow. This is why Arctic Cat was working so hard to release a factory snowbike, as it would have come from the factory with the track/ski. This would bypass the MN law and allow it to be registered as a snowmobile.

(as a side note, did you notice AC officially dumped the snowbike project and prototypes were sold/given to their biggest dealers. Country Cat has one on display next to PJ's race sleds as of a few weeks ago! Note the Camso track kit on that Chinese bike)

Yamaha would have to distribute it with the Camso kit as a machine designed for the snow. Nothing says it could not be easily adapted to the dirt in the off season. That being said, I agree, they are not good on trails, or good for trails. It would be a hoot in the ditches!!

I got to say I also don't like rider forward with bad knees. I also don't like 2 stroke smell. What's most important to me is reliability not pc ride. I love the eps ride way better than without. I will probably never have to worry about miles on motor. Wouldn't leave Apex unless another one came out.

My hip and back issues are why I love the rider forward chassis. I had sold my sleds in 2007 and got out of it cause of back and hip issues. Then my old riding buddy picked up a new Polaris in 2016 and I took a spin on it and couldn’t believe how comfortable I was on it. Being a Yamaha guy since the early 80’s I went a picked up a Viper and love it. Much better on the knees too.

Exactly, one of reason I love my Winder is the seat height and feet further forward. And they still are not quite as comfy as a Doo or Pol. This means hips and knees feel better.

This will be along the lines of 2020 for Yamaha , minus the electric motor
Notice skinny rear suspension.....

I hope not, that thing is extremely ugly. The good thing on it are those fox shocks!! Lol
