Well I don’t know if this will start an argument or not, but if we are discussing the 2020 model release why are we even discussing the pros and cons of the Deltabox chassis? That ship has sailed away and she ain’t coming back.
If we only look at it from a Cat design viewpoint then you are correct but last time I checked it is also about Yamaha design and the DB is a Yamaha design. Now the thread is about what we wish for or think is coming in 2021, oops got ahead a bit sorry 2020. Point is and it has been stated is best of both worlds Cat pros and cons and Yamaha pros and cons or we have to rename the thread to 2020 Cat release only. As far as the Yamaha ship sailing it defiantly has, only Yamaha left is old tech from the 70's and 80's. Even Yamaha's VK Professional arguably the best work sled on the snow is gone along with all touring sleds. What we have left is Pure Cat with its strengths and weaknesses' Meow! So are you saying that Yamaha has no strengths to contribute that could add to that from past design and or tech? Or is the 1049 and the 998 T it?
Ah but we know it was about starting an argument with me to further the pages so good job. Please reply so we can discuss more.

Good point.
Except today it's about the shocks. The good shocks on these Yamacats are spring order only or you get plain 'ole Jane shocks.
I see a Catamaha more like the Doo of today. One chassis with different track and chassis options. One motor a 998 that is NA around 100hp, one motor a jacksahft driven SCed 998 around 150, and of course the 998 T at 200. Spring order build my sled. I would pick the Super Charged version just for the increased fuel mileage with a strong top end and less under hood heat and ability to run regular fuel. 140 something inch length track with a 1.5 inch ice studded track EPS and no damn tuner skis. That is the best future I see.

Sasquatch, do you think the four cylinder is done forever. I think a four cylinder can be successful, if done right.I see a Catamaha more like the Doo of today. Well now as its the best engine Yamaha ever produced I would love to see it carry on. As Yamaha does not build sleds anymore only engines I don't know what they would put it in. If Cat had put it in the Pro Cross I would be a fan but that didn't happen. If Yamaha builds a sled again (not likely) it would be the only way but again Yamaha does not build sleds anymore.Sasquatch, do you think the four cylinder is done forever. There is no sound like the superbike sound. I have seen more people of all brands and those who do not ride stop to listen to the Apex 4.

I went from a Yamaha FZ-1 inline 4 to a 3 cylinder Yamaha FJ-09.
Like my sled, it handles better, but just doesn't have that super sexy sound.
Japanese inline 4 at 10,000 rpm's..............music to my ears...............better then a Peppermint Patty!

Why would I ride a Cat chassis? My Chassis is as old as the Cat chassis, Why would I ride an old Cat chassis with all its problems when my 8 year old Apex is problem free for 12,000 miles. It took Yamaha 8 years to iron out the Apex into a machine that is both tough and reliable and they both owned and designed it. Yamaha neither owns nor designed the Cat.
It took Yamaha 5 years to shoehorn a motor into the chassis (poorly I might add) design a killer turbo motor and show Cat where too weld on some tabs for new plastic. They have done nothing to the chassis because they do not own it. So unless they own or get the rights to redesign the chassis and make it as reliable as the Delta box why would I and many others like me want to buy one.
We are still waiting for the Delta box replacement, the Cat chassis is not it. The drive train of the Cat is no where near as tough or reliable, the only thing the Cat has that is better is the suspension and I can live with the Apex suspension cause as much as everyone wants to complain about it, the truth is its not terrible. Its a big heavy Cadillac not a sports car and if ya bought it thinking it was a Cadillac your not disappointing with it! The problem is that the Apex 2011 up Apex is not that its a delta box, its that the Cat chassis can't live up to that standard of quality or refinement. The partnership is the problem because from it comes Cat sleds with all of Cats problems and weaknesses. If Yamaha had control over that Chassis and could bring it up to Apex quality durability and refinement maybe more would buy in, till then why one want to give up riding the last best sled Yamaha ever built.
Including the 2018 Vector. I bought one because they are true Yamaha.

We just got 15 cm of fresh snow last night. Going to ride my Phazer & Viper this weekend. Still hoping for a new, all Yamaha, sled next year but I honestly think that will not happen as I believe the bond between Yamaha and Cat is getting stronger.

working on itWith the way winters are going the 2020 needs to have a bogie wheel skid and wheels instead of skis.
Just need to figure out how to cool it with no snow on the heat ex-changers.
