We pretty much beat the 2020 subject to death.......here's to hoping we are all wrong and Yamaha will be back with all new product using the 4 holer Apex motor!
its hardly "all new" if it would use the 4 hole apex engine. LOL. Just being a smart #*$&@ 5 year old so we can get to 100 faster.

Well the all new was in reference to a Yamaha chassis, not the 998cc 4 cylinder Apex motor. There is no need for an all new motor, why mess with perfection.its hardly "all new" if it would use the 4 hole apex engine. LOL. Just being a smart #*$&@ 5 year old so we can get to 100 faster.

New exciter 4 hole !!
That's a machine I would consider. Since the rumor mill on the AC forums is a new chassis to replace the procross in 2020. Build that sucker to take the Apex engine, and get rid of all the stupid little crap in the ProCross. PS: I want access to the oil filter, crankcase drain, a chaincase drain, and rivets that don't bleed black soot.
And for the love of God, don't put a T30 bolt in to hold the seat on, unless you leave jumpers to the battery in a convenient place for jump starts.

My prediction is Yamaha stays with 4 stroke and now will be an all 4 stroke turbo company. Phazer 1 cylinder turbo 100 hp. Viper 2 cylinder 150 hp turbo, and sidewinder 3 cylinder 200 hp. Streamline their product line with basically all the same chassis and basically the same engine with more or less cylinders (you could swap pistons in the engines if you wanted to). They find a few places to loose some weight on the chassis and yamaha is back into the game without making radical changes and still being able to differentiate their product from the other 3 mainly 2 stroke companies.
They are now the company with sleds known for reliability and longevity, on parr with the weight of the 2 stroke sleds, more torque, and with HP unaffected by altitude.

Wonder what a single cylinder turbo Phazer would sound like... could Yamaha get 100hp out of a single, the Phazer would be very light and quick if they could.

Thank you. It seems to make the most sense. The company doesn't have much experience with two strokes. So they either have to start from the drawing board or source their engine from someone else. Since they already do that with their current chassis they will be left with little that is theirs and little that is a profit. They more or less already have the engines that can handle turbos and their one factory turbo charged sled was a bright spot in an otherwise poor sales record the last several years. Most of all they differentiate and become an alternative to companies that all sell a very similar sleds. If they loose a little weight (not as much as people perceive they do) I could see them going from last place in sales to first.
If you talk numbers the 2 cylinder engine on a phazer according to my research weighs 82 lbs, which is actually lighter than the RMK "patriot" engine. The nytro engine weighs about 30 lbs more than that. It was all the other stuff yamaha put on the sled the added to the weight. But a current viper weighs around 500 lbs dry. A ski doo summit and new arctic cat are about 450 lbs. If they can make the viper into a 2 cylinder turbo, presumable it would loose 20 lbs, and they were able to loose 30 lbs more they end up with a sled with the same specs as the two others. RMKs are still the lightest but make a lot of sacrifices to get there.
If we are talking about pipe dreams I'd also like to see them route the air from the waste gate on the turbo to several different snow build up locations around the chassis to blow off the snow as you ride.

The 2019 single cylinder YZ450 is about 55 hp. I believe the safe, factory authorized, pump gas turbo that yamaha used to authorize for the vipers brought it from 130 hp to 190 hp or 30% more HP. That was with something yamaha authorized and warrantied an aftermarket company to build and wasn't factory built specially for that set up. 30% more power on the YZ motor would put it at 71 hp but 50% more power safely should be pretty easy to achieve with a purpose built motor and turbo, that would put it at 82.5 hp......... I would think with DOHC, a hotter cam that doesn't have to idle low because of gears, and some other tech upgrade 17.5 more HP is very reasonable.

I think your on to something here, I have said in the past that Yamaha will be focusing more on turbo's to achieve power to weight for the 4 stroke sleds. The 2019 single cylinder YZ450 is about 55 hp. Some very interesting concepts here.
A single cylinder turbo i never thought of. Built for a turbo, it could be light & torquey. Yamaha is the only brand i trust to do it.
The twin could be the FZ-07 tweaked to work with a turbo.
And of course the 998 Turbo & the 3 hole 998 NA
-a 500 with 80 to 100 hp
-a 700 with 130 to 150 hp
-a 998 NA with 140ish
-a 998T with 200
Could be a nice line up plus they already have all these engines.
I believe AC & Yamaha redesigned or built a new chassis to fit the Yammi motors. That's where the evidence is pointing.
If you want a 2-stroke then most would just buy the Cat.
I don't agree they could be #1 in under 10 years or ever. BUT, they could put a dent in the big D's dominance.

A bunch of cry babies whining about how yamaha doesn’t build sleds and is just a motor supplier !!!I know we haven’t reached a 100 pages yet, but does anybody know what’s coming for 2021 yet?
Hopefully by then they own the snow division of Textron/ Arctic Cat!!!
