22 Top Gear

Hi All,

My local dealer gave me this to replace my 21 top gear with a 22. I believe this part is wrong, and needs to be a 15W-22T! Any input? If it is wrong where are you all getting the Yamaha top gears. I will be running about 270Hp and will run out of OD quickly with the stock gearing.

1702-395 without oil hole should be avail...I got one fast not too long ago.

1702-491 (NEW 22 WITH OIL HOLE) is backordered til mid FEB (18s come with oil hole where as 17s did not)

Oh that sucks....I got my 1702-395 back around early Nov or so, and it was in stock. Dave at Hurricane is also out of stock apparently.

I am going to get the new one with oil hole as the 18s now come with this stock, and it may help the short bushing life that some have seen. Although the hole is not drilled through the bushing itself and should be IMO. Ill just wait til later for it to come, and for now Ill run this one without oil hole.

If they are ALL backordered til FEB, then I would grab the new one with oil hole as its only a bit more in cost.

any suggestions to still gear up and keep stock chain?

I think I will leave it be until I can get the new 22T top gear! I am going to run a 660' Radar run the middle of Jan so 21/41 will be fine. I guess where I am still confused is why we are dealing with going to cat for our top gear why doesn't Yamaha sell them?

Has anyone even tried to order a YAM gear?

I think the issue there is, does YAM make a 22 at all?

Cat does, so we all just went cat....lol
