Sidewinder Top Gear

That is awesome....Stock gearing helps for sure(I went back to stock now)

My clutches run cool too, never hot. I would guess your offset is around 60-61mm or so. Do you run more higher speeds or more smaller trails?

Always nice to hear this....and If i were you, id not touch it! haha

I run a mix, where I live the trails are small and twisty, but I go North a lot where the trails are bigger and faster.

Powertrail....says it all.
I said I ran it for the majority of those 1800miles , easily 5-600 miles were max spool 17. Either way powertrail is still a 270hp tune and I’m studded heavily compared to many trail riders. I would also venture to say I ride much more aggressively than the vast majority of trail riders.

There is not a whole lot of spinning going on when the throttle meets the bar, I’ve been very happy with 8jp thus far.

Max spool 17 is a very aggressive powerful tune and is a blast in the twists with some straight a ways. It tests the limits of a belt for sure.

I didn't have belt issues because of the 22 upper gear. I had belt issues because of a certain spring I tried in the secondary. After turfing that spring I beat on my sled on the track with no issues. My point being lots of guys are running taller gearing with no belt issues.
x2

So what spring did you change to that helped your belt issue

I had no belt issues with the stock spring the first year. The first trip last year I tried the TP orange and blew 3 belts. (I went out of town and didn’t bring my stock spring). So I turfed it (actually sold it to powderfalcon I think) and purchased and ran the dalton black/orange with no issue the rest of the year.

I blew my first belt at 465km. I changed out my primary from Ulmer. Changed rollers. changed out spring on secondary and swapped over to the 8DN. I blew my 2nd belt at 7983km. I've been tuned since day 0. Last season ran max spool 17.

8DN last long for many people, its because it longer. It wont snap. I just never liked how the 8DN pulled, not nearly has hard on bottom end pull and less top end. But if you want long lasting the 8DN seems to work with its length.

The compound is different as well and doesn't have anywhere near as much belt dust. I ran 8DN on my Viper, belt dust was greatly improved which was a plus with white plastics and tunnel but as you said it didn't pull as hard.

You have to clutch different for the harder belts. It will take more pinch to prevent slippage. So less helix and/or more driven spring and more weight in the front clutch.

Every single time I have gone to a harder drive belt it has performed BETTER over the softer belts no matter the make or model of machine, but it takes a different recipe to make it quicker and faster. Harder belts distort less when pinching them thru their cycles of gripping the clutches. They always actually run quicker ET's and better speed but you can't just throw it on a set of clutches not calibrated for the harder belt compound and expect it to work.

The 8DN has worked great over all the years of the Apex both stock and big power turbo. Same for the Nytro, Vectors and even the Vipers who have converted to them. Put it on, clutch and gear for it and stick with it. It only a minor bit longer (like 1/8-1/4" longer) which will gear the whole ratio down from start to finish ever so slightly.

I'd guess a gram or two in the primary added along with a couple degree less helix and maybe a stiffer secondary spring and all will be golden. I'm actually planning to try the 8DN myself right out of the gate here this winter. I think it may really help with response, backshift and performance with the right clutch combo.

Agree, the harder compound is better. I clutched for the 8DN and set up deflection according. The slightly longer length changed the "feel" of it. But you are probably right though. I never actually tested the two on timers. Back when I was into racing my best setups didn't always "feel" the best. I'll be interested to hear your results.

X2....8jp is messy belt, i wont ever run one again.
