I purchased a 2007 Apex GT at the end of last season and put 500 miles on it before the snow thinned out. I have started to prep for this season, and have changed the top drive gear to a 23 tooth. I am looking for feed back from others who have done this gear change. Do rpm`s change dramatically anywhere in the powerband? Will I need to consider a clutching change, and if so what? I did install 192 studs. They are placed on both sides of the rails for hook up. The mono spring has been upgraded for my weight. I weigh about 270 with my gear on. Thanks in advance!

No needs for clutching here,i swap mine last year ( after i put a aftermarket clutch kit ) but my rpm stay the same 10600 rpm. After the gear change i never look back, this is a mod that you can feel from 0 to top end out of the garage wen you made the swap and all across the power band,no top end lost.Enjoy!

Thanks ROCKRTX for the input. The factory chain was reused with that gear set up. I purchased the gear from Yamaha.

By dropping the top tooth to a 23 you noticed increased performance throughout the powerband? Is that correct? I was thinking of making the same change to my 2007 ATTAK bought at the end of last season as well. Will the 23 be an applicable change for the ATTAK? I am not sure how the gearing compares on the two sleds.
Thanks for the input guys.

Shane. I believe the Attack comes with the 23 top gear. You may need to go to a 22 top gear. I think you would be alright with the stock chain, but not sure.Shane said:By dropping the top tooth to a 23 you noticed increased performance throughout the powerband? Is that correct? Attak come stock with 23. You'll need a 22 top, or a 40 bottom reverse gear to gear down.

With a 22 top gear you will need a new chain (68 link) but with the 40 bottom gear you can use the OEM chain.

I have them in stock for $35 + shipping.
I am going through this gearing issue with my Attak.. I just put a 144 kit on it, Thinking of going 23/40, lazy basdard thought 22/40 should be close. Any thoughts?

I'm going with 23/40 on my RTX. On snow, my sled couldn't pull the 24/40 that was in it (peak MPH). On ice was a different story.
