240 tune clutching

Something is wrong here if an 850 is keeping up.
I finally had the chance today to put some miles on my buds 17 that I installed the TD ecotrail tune on. Machine is otherwise stock.
Clutching is the 19 specs, except we left the heavy rivet in the end hole. Machine revs 85-8700, and toys with 850's. They can be ten lengths ahead, it reels them in in no time and keeps distancing itself.
I see no sense in spending money on aftermarket clutch parts with any tune 250hp and under for trail riding.
I messed around with a few 850 Pol and 850 Doo's last week and those guys are not even close to my sidewinder XTX with max spool 16. I used Thunder Products clutching last year when sled was stock and went on there set up for my TD max spool 16 flash and there recommended changes were right on the money!!! rpm goes to 9100 then settles at 8950 on a long shot and pulls very hard. Hard to believe because it is so smooth when riding normal trail speed then once the throttle is pulled aggressively it turns into an animal. Friends with new 800's and 850's are not even a challenge, they are not happy but there is not much they can do.

I still run into guys that still think 800's and 850's are some sort of threat to Winders, even tuned ones. Mostly because they have never rode with one. They say something silly like, "oh, I'm 80 pounds less so I'll beat you to a hundred". Uh, no you won't. You'll be so far behind you won't believe it.

Reading posts I understand stiffer secondary spring, my concern in clutch heat with that, usually heavy springs and heavy weights dont work well with corner to corner, only long pulls, especially with lots of tip weight. Second is usually produced lots of heat
I have heavy spring in secondary, 270r tune, no heat, can’t figure what you guys are talking about, 18000.00 sled, you by a tune $500, just go it and buy the weights, oh I ride corner to corner, it might get hotter but what the hell your running high hp, if you want cool stay stock.

I tried light all around with the 270R and wanted like hell to get it to work because i liked the "snap". Guess i didn't realize how much power i was wasting until i went "Heavy". The TD gauge doesn't lie

The stiffer secondary spring will bring back the snap, when using the heavier weights.
The Cat green secondary spring that everyone says is sooo heavy really isn’t. Lots of 600cc cats running around with that spring in the secondary. Just sayin

Yes, so far I've tried a bunch and have settled on the black /lime

Wow thats messed up. Run DTYA-1 empty or load the 70's up to 75G all in the tip or close to that 75 G. Should be fine with the 38 and Dalton Black/Orange in secondary, but wrap it up a bit more. Old style spring wrap it up at 80, if its new style one to 90 on that 240 tune.

You blew a belt as you have no grip there at all the way you had it setup. You should be WASTING that 850 hardcore. 70 G is a setup for a stock sled. About 72 in tip for 225 tune. 240 about 74.5- 75G. 270 about 78-79 G. 290 80-82 G. All dependent on belt and secondary setup. You have to run heavier than the Black/Orange in the driven on the 270 and 290 tunes. EPI purple, Cat sno-pro green or Dalton White, All Cat secondary springs to keep a hold on the belt in the secondary on the bigger tunes.
Hi there I’m going to order a heavier spring to try for270/290 , Which one would you recommend most if only order one LOL

EPI purple or Dalton White. Either is fine they both register the same side pressure depending on wrap. Purple has to be wrapped one tighter than Dalton white for same side pressure on the scale. Dalton Black/Lime same too but one less wrap than the Dalton White as its 10-15 lbs more sitting static.

They are all right there with the Cat Sno-Pro Green, which are all more side pressure then the Dalton Yamaha Black/Orange that works well with the lower power level tunes.

So if I put one of these in to try the 270 tune would it also work okay to leave in for 240?

It'd work just fine, but not necessarily needed on the 240 tune.

Myself, I prefer the heavier secondary springs using the 8DN belt also.
