OKAY ride yesterday and it did it again with return line moved. I was around 2 gallons of gas and whacked it and it fell on its face and gave me a slight back fire. This from 5-10 mph. So the pump is bad?? Then why does it NOT do it with more then 3 gallons of gas in the tank??? Guess I will try new pump. This one has me scratching my head a little.
A pump can always push more than it can pull. If pump is weak the less gas the harder it has to work because gravity is not helping it.

Pump is an easy swap. If you went with the TD pump, just change the one female connector, add a couple clamps, and you're good to go.

What he said!!! I see it all the time with my diesel pumps on my transfer tank in my pickup when fueling my machinery. I have to pump fuel up to the machine which ends up being 6-8 ft higher than my truck. Weak pumps work great till tank gets down to 1/4-3/8 remaining and then they struggle. Same concept here.A pump can always push more than it can pull. If pump is weak the less gas the harder it has to work because gravity is not helping it.
and to keep the pump from failing in the future, will be the return line relocate mod

I got the TD pump( not installed yet). Ride today and the pump is a chump! It’s getting weaker. Last ride for me this year. I had a knock light today on a mild pull with half a tank. The gas was good I know for a fact. The pump is weak and or just not cutting it with the tune. I watched the boost today and my TD “powertrail” is like 17-18 pounds on a spike. Don’t think the stocker is capable ESPECIALLY with lower fuel amounts. I’m done for this year and will replace pump in off season. I will say this. (Full tank)I did a nice hard pull on hard pack this Morning 700am. The skis finally touched the ground and I looked at speedo and it said 95 mph. I laughed! Power(with lots of fuel) and hook was just sick this am. Good last spin 180 miles in 4 hours.

I had to think about this post for a bit. BUT I get it now. It’s just easier for the pump when the tank is full! Also another member on here feels the more the fuel pump misses or sucks air the shorter it’s life gets? I think he is correct!A pump can always push more than it can pull. If pump is weak the less gas the harder it has to work because gravity is not helping it.

500 miles this season. TD fuel pump. Not one time did sled cut or show symptoms of fuel pressure. Even ran it with one gallon of gas!

With the fuel return line relocated to the top of the pump i ran mine until it ran out of gas. Never missed a beat until it ran out. Stock pump and pick up lines.
Do you have pictures and instructions on how to do this. I’m having the same issue with mine. But it only happens after 3 or 4 hard pulls using my MSD Launch Master. It happens even with 1/2 to 3/4 full tank. Not sure if the pump it getting hot from the 2 step, or if it just can’t recover fast enough. It doesn’t do it all them time and cleans itself out, but then does it again. Just started happening this year after adding the MSD. That said though I have never in the past just lake raced all day like I did last weekend. With the fuel return line relocated to the top of the pump i ran mine until it ran out of gas. Never missed a beat until it ran out. Stock pump and pick up lines.
Should have mentioned, tune is PEFI stage 3, sled has 2300 miles on it.
