I just have to say. I went riding with a buddy of mine today. He just started selling doo's at his car dealership.
He wanted me to try his 800 of course to see if he could sell me one.
They might be lighter, they might bost of a 163hp but these are my thoughts.
It was like riding a tin can is my best inpression.
I did not feel any more power. not at all.
I believe I could take it but we didn't try them.
The steering was terrible. It hurt my arms after 15 minutes.
I don't care if there lighter. My sled felt lighter driving it.
Just my honest opinion...

My sons buddy just got one and my son said his Nytro felt faster. It was brand new so I know the Doos run those very rich the first few hundred miles. Wait till he gets some miles on it and then we will see. I still love the Apex over anything else I have ridden so far.... ;)!

I'd like to hear back when the 800 has some miles on it and you guys race them. Thanks for the post!

I rode a friend's 2010 TNT 600, and it sounded like a moped, but handled great. I didn't notice any steering difficulty. He owned the same sled as me 2006 Apex RTX before that and he likes the ski-doo much better. I still prefer the Apex.

I couldn't agree more. Last spring I was looking for a new sled instead of my 2006 Mach Z. I tried the XP800, not etec, and I tried the etec600, just to feel how they was to drive. I didn't like them, felt to light, I didn't like how they was to drive. Not for me, but the Apex XTX, PERFECT.
Haven't had any possibility to test against a XP etec yet, but I tested against a Summit etec 800, and he was very impressed how fast the XTX was from start.

Jumping from my 800 etec to my old nytro...the nytro does feel faster. The nytro motor is just so smooth and torquey with such instant throttle response.

But it isn't faster. Just as quick out of the hole tho

I have been working on my (slightly modded) 09 LTX trying to beat my buds e-tec (800 Adrenaline) Ski Don't for a few weeks. He is not studded. I have 108 down the middle (not nearly enough) and I may get him out of the hole but he goes on by with authority. I'm still waiting to run him on our drag track but even then I would need a two sled length lead o have a shot. He will soon be puting in 108 studs. Has anyone beat one of these yet? Those machines are not as snappy but it appears to have good gradual power and top end too.

I'll post this here since I don't wanna make another threadthat turns into a bi&@h fest.

We had the yamaha demo days today up at the island lake inn in Duluth mn. I rode the apex se, apex xtx, the nytro rtx and the nytro xtx.

IMO. They are all crap on the trail. I'm used to sleds that are planted to the ground. Especially the the skis but these sleds seemed all over the place. Yes I was riding pretty aggressive but that's what I can compare to. Ski doo is leaps and bounds ahead of yamaha in trail riding and chassis

This might start an argument but I hope not
As for performance. We took the sleds across the road to a wide open lake then on a 25 mile trail ride. There were tons of 600 and 800 gades there all riding the yamaha for the demo day. Once they were done they got on their sleds ran on the lake with a apex xtx and a nytro xtx and ran to 80-85. The gade 600 got the jolesjot on everyone thenthe apex and nytro pulled ahead quickly being reeled in by the 800. At about an 1/8 mile the 800 was pulling fast on everyone. Followed by the 600 then apex then nytro. They did multiple rolling runs like this.

As for a conclusion the nytro was a tiny tiny bit quicker thanthe etec 600. But like I said they only ran to 80 and the apex only held "close" NOT EVER pulling on the apex from a roll or a dig. The etec 800 is impressive and shockingly quiet. But I don't see EVER how a apex could win a race against an etec. It pulled in every type of run and kept going. The conditions on the lake were groomed with about a 12" base. No sled had picks or mods. The miles on the apex was 1300 on the xtx and 720 on the nytro

Not dogging yamaha as I'm actually considering buying one. But they need to reduce the weight somehow and need to work on rider position and chassis. IMO the nytro is a horrible trail sled. But seems like it would be a fun ditch banger or jumper but after riding etecs they all feel like tanks. With yamaha you feel gravity while the doos ride like they defy it

I think I must have been very lucky with my Apex XTX. I haven't seen one sled that will keep up with it the first 1000ft, not etec 800, not xr1200, , not nytro, not older apex, not cf800, not cf1000 and definnetelly not etec 600

Well I got to run one this weekend a friend of mine is a mech. at a skidoo dealer....he brought on our ride the 11 800 backcountry etec. So he told me to take it for a rip and to ride it as long as I want......So here it is,I road it about 25 miles in multiple different conditions. That F**KER rips in the trails and rides like a cady and donesn't matter how fast you are going but feels like and sounds like you are riding something out of a cereal box.....cheap as hell. Powder awesome sled, does what it suppose to. So we lined them up on a groomed trail my attak and the back country both having 1 3/4 tracks and no studs. We raced about 1000' feet and from start to finnish I didn't see him anywhere near me. I do have to admit I have mine tuned very strong as I have never lost against another apex (Yamcharger or not) around here other then the boosted boy's. All in all if it was a 4 stroke with that same power I would be over on the doo side boy's. It's a hard pill to swallow but DAMN!!!!!!!

i ran a 2010 800r saturday like 15 times in 1000 ft...i never won but never lost by more than 4 lengths.his sled has tons of work with a good rider on it. one race i only lost by 2 ft or so...was a great time! he even told me how impressed he was with my yami being so heavy and running side by side with his lighter more hp sled. i said thx bro...imagine if i lost 140 lbs and added 20 hp....id be winning by more than a few lengths! we also ran a bunch of other sleds ...800r,f7,nytro,you name it. One race a buddys well tuned f7 won over everything! so you never know!

Raced my buddy's 800 Etec with my 08 Nytro RTX. Yes he beat me. but not as bad as I thought he would. My Nytro has 5,500 miles on the odometer and the clutching doesn't seem to be quite as good as it used to be thru the midrange. So I think I could make a race even closer if my clutching was freshened up. But I still don't see my Nytro ever beating him.

Seat of the pants feel and ride of the Etec 800
I also rode his Etec about 15 miles. A few long straights. Some twisty's. and some whooped out stuff.
1. Power- Very strong out of the hole and midrange. However its very deceptive from a seat of a pants feel. My Nytro actually feels quicker when your on it. The Etec 800 doesn't feel as fast as any Apex I've ever rode on the big end. If it is? it sure fooled me.
2. Handling- Really handles great. Respondes great to rider input and weight shifting. Definately a light sled. Steering effort was light and seemed precise and tracked good in corners. But Hey!!! guess what? It had a little bit of darting. Definately nothing bad but I guess worth mentioning considering how much you hear about it on Yamaha's.
3. Suspension- I liked it. It really worked good in the whoops section. Rear suspension felt a little soft but a few adjustments probably would have taken care of that. In 15 miles I didn't notice anything bad about the Suspension.

Overall its a nice sled but I do have to agree with one of J-mac's observations. It just kind of feels like a Tin Can. It's a nice sled but I prefer my Nytro.
