First, we had a great weekend. Put on 120kms. 5 inches of packed snow and 30kms of road to play on. 2 GT's, one bone stock but i've played with my primary to compare the two. With a stiffer spring it was slower on top end than the stock GT. On our way back to the truck we ran into a friend of ours who was setting up a clutch kit on his 06 Mach Z. I took the Z for a rip which has the 1 inch track and 144 studs. I was waiting for that killer pull the mags all brag about but it never happened. That Apex just flat out felt stronger, much stronger. When I returned with the Z we compared thoughts so now it was time for a little fun. By the way, neither Apex has studs so I will give the traction advantage to the Z. All runs were from a rolling start 2000ft long give or take. The stock Apex easily out pulled the Z in the midrange every run but after 100mph the Z started to close the gap. I would say it had 3-5 mph more on top but remember the Apex was bone stock. I don't know if his clutch kit helped or not but I was amazed how the Apex pulled away in the midrange. This is the first Z i've ran with so only time will tell.

that 1 inch track is going to hurt the Mach big time.. Just like it did on the 03' RX-1... I bet that clutch kit hurt the mach if anything... just cant get the power to the ground!!

Glad to know big blue can hold off some of the big iron!

Damn i wish i had some snow..

IMO, yes and no on the track issue. Depending on the hardpack conditions, yes the Ripsaw on the Apex would get the nod for takeoff, but on top end I would say no the 1" track didn't hurt the Mach. It should pull better top end than a sled with a 1.25" Ripsaw , not to mention he has 20 more HP. Man, I am liking the APEX reports so far!!!

Wait until you put studs in those GT's! I was rototilling today!!! I set the transfer to Yamaha's recommended maximum...wow...lots of transfer! I will adjust some more and see what she wil do.

guys if that was a 06 your goinig to get the burn out chip excuse thing on the Mach. ;)!

I was thinking the same turbo. I was talking with a friend tonight who owns both Doo and Yamaha. He said the same as you mentioned about the chip being burned in. Gee how about the 4 stroke motor being stiff yet?? We all know it takes longer for a 4 stroker to break in vs. a 2 stroke.

The chip thing...ha ha..I heard good stories in other forums on the chip thing lol. Stories like the lightning came thundering down at 80 mph and it back fired while the front end lifted strait up.
Watch out for that chip boys, don’t get to close or you’ll get electrocuted.

BZZZZZT Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

The chip..lol This is fun topic on dootalk. Doo owners might notice a slight change in exhaust note, It isnt going to make a couple sled length change in performance

Glad you got the same results I did when I raced my friend. He has the 1.25 ripsaw so he didn't seem to be catching me over 100. Who knows what it will do out on the lake when it freezes........ I hope that 170 horse shows up sometime for my friends sake.

When the dookie owners shoot lightening bolts out there a$$ ,you'll know the chip has burned out.

Hi sx7001 ok you stated you did clutch work on one of the gts and the top end was better on the bone stock one,by how much did the clutched one lose to the bone stocker?? And the big question what did you do other than a primary spring change, and was it a primary spring you changed only?? Alot of time if its just a stiffer spring and nothing else has been changed it will only help w/engagement,and like you stated be to stiff to fully shift out,and hurt your top end some, with higher shift out,now it may be an ok spring set up with the right helix/spring combo and spring wind combo on your secondary plus your stock helix if you still have it is not cut for overdrive,it needs to have .100 thou taken off the boss, and a different secondary spring installed,to work better so you have little coil bind,if you got the extra give allen or one of the clutch guys a call and order up one of there kits, and thanks for the pics and the sweet news lol he he .. :die

Good morning guys! I have spent the whole afternoon yesterday riding with 3 mackZ one 2005 and two 06.One was a short track studded with 144 1.075" (original 1" track) the other was my riding buddy 06 gade with a 15" 1.25 ripsaw 136" studded with 108 1.45" woodys in the middle and my Apex gt with 96 1.375" in the middle.( medium shield installed). The lake was covered with about 1to 2" of snow and bare spots. We had a gps with us and were pilling the miles for break-in.My gt now has 270 kl. and happily spins to 10500.
NOW THE FACTS :flag: The gt will ride side by side with the Macks from a roll on start up to about 100mph without any hesitation (fantastic pull compare to my 03 RX1.)The new Yamies are the perfect trail machines they have more weights on the skis (for better cornering ) because of the advanced riding position. The rear suspension is day and knight compare to the older RX1 (witch by the way I really enjoyed with over 15000kl.)
BUT: that weight on the skis robs us of the last few miles per hour.If you play with the steering post of the Macks you notice immediatly that the weight is diffently spread (the wheel base is about 3 to 4 inches longer)witch reduces the ski pressure.so that translates in easier top end numbers for the macks, not only because of those extra HP.(Ithink that the HP numbers at the track are not that mutch higher than ours)
So to conclude I ran 113 mph on the gps (indicated 200kl. on the dream meter) the Macks ran 116 mph on that same stretch.(but later with tail wind they did 121 mph and a 125 on the short track.I did not try to increase my time since it is breaking-in time and I knew what the end results would be.Nevertheless I am very very happy with my knew toy and will have a ball suprising my buddy comming out of a corner and staying or passing him without seeing him take the jump ahead LaLaLa LaLaLa LaLaLa

Hi dyama great post now that is what i would of thought i would see on my gps reason i say this is at 123-128 speedo gps waas reading 109 max,was i getting as bad signal or track spinning this bad attak all stock and my buds apexgt same everything, you stated 200kph which is 125 mph and you got 113 is that correct,if so i remember getting 128 on my 03 and gps was around 114-115 and at 131 117 gps so i was surprised at only 109 but it sounds like yours is running good too,but yes we have to take the transfer rod and let it transfer completely and soften yp your rear as soft as you can when you run these guys again, mine was set by myself so it had even more ski pressure than stock,i had my rod at min. transfer and my track spins loose at a flick of the throttle any time i wack it.. :rocks:
