Apex clutch on Sidewinder

Mike, I know on the bench it doesn't slide freely with the spider shimmed. I don't think it matters on the sled when running, but thats just me...:)

Well, it really does if you put the sled on timers. We would take the o-rings out behind the buttons if the clutch had them and reduce the drag on the towers. It provides for a better ET.

Add in the change in clearance when temps rise and you could end up in a real bind. When they bind you'll lose a tenth in just 660 feet.

What I know about the mine and my buds winder clutches, is they bind, and are on the bench now. Are they warping? Are the shafts growing and loosing clearance on the movable bushing? I don't know for sure, we both threw them on the bench and haven't looked back at them since. All I know is they don't move freely and just sit there for now.

With the Apex clutch, are you guys torquing it to Sidewinder specs? 108 ftlbs then 43 ftlbs.

Yes, because it is needed to seat the clutch for the power the SW makes.

Thank you. Last question, will offset be changed with the Apex primary?

Shouldn't change....

Most of the ones we have installed needed zero offset adjustment....but still a good thing to double check.

The RX-1 primary I installed need 1.5mm movement of the secondary outward vs my winder primary. I was able to re-install the circlip back on the jackshaft to set it properly, and that circlip is 1.5mm so it worked out perfectly.

I honestly wonder if the shaft has expanded that much on the Winder primary to allow for the difference I've seen between the RX-1 primary.

Had one in today with 8200kms and the second set of rollers were done and starting to take the dalton weights with them. Also, two of the spider buttons on the load side are starting to crumble. Been tuned for most of its life. Ordering a TAPP instead of putting money into rebuilding it.
For now, I put a used Nytro clutch on and I used one 0.003 spider shim behind the non 0-ring buttons. Relatively quiet.
I sent out my employee to test drive it(on the 275 tune) who rides a 18 800 Polaris normally.
He says after riding it, "that thing is f****n scary".

74 Nitro, can you explain these o-rings behind clutch buttons? Are they necessary? Non o-ring buttons?

Tried the Apex clutch today and all seems good! It is definitely noisier than the sidewinder clutch and only went up 1 gram on weights but rpms perfect but engagement has moved up to 3500 from 3100- 3200. Makes it a little more abrupt but Im going to live with it. Sled pulling HARD!!!!! Thanks to all the guys on here for all the help and great info on everything.
