I like everything about my new Apex, but that handlebar pad???? It simply doesn't go along with the quality of the rest of the sled. The pad is not even covered by the fabric on the top and it looks like someone just took a knife to it to make the slot for the cables to pass through. I know this is an extremely small issue and there have been a few post on it, but we have to invent something here on this forum to make it better. I am going to play around with making last years RX-1 cover fit. It appears that the distance between the handlebar grip has been decrease signifigantly, so it is not going to be simple. If amyone else has ideas, I think we should share them. lets see who can come up with the best looking solution. ;)!

Check out the Yamaha accessories on their website. Apex/Attak Handlebar Pad. Part #SMA-8FPHP-CV-BK $18.95 list. Has a storage pocket and comes with the foam.

I see there is no photo of the handlebar pad on yamaha's web site. It may be just another small pad with a pocket. I saw a Apex at the dealer last weekend and the sled was beautiful but the handlebars looked like they forgot to finish them, Zip ties all over the place, it just is so out of plave on this otherwise perfect sled. Even the dealer is going to try to have a sewing shop make him up a bunch of full pads so his sleds look finished. I think the phazer 500 pad may fit . It is not as wide as the rx1 pad. I am going to use the RX1 pad but I will have to cut the stitching on the ends and resew it abought 1.5 inches shorter. This will be pretty easy.
I bet yamaha is going to catch some flack for this one.

i dont think it looks all that bad really. id rather see a nicer quality pad though. bar riser and bars are gonna give you some wire exposure no matter what you do. i think it looks fine IMO

What about a handlebar cover from a RX-1 Mtn/RS Vector Mtn?
I agree that the handlebar pad with exposed wires gives the sled a very unfinished look.
Cap'n

I think the RX1 mountian pad or RS Vector pad will have the same problem as the 05 RX1, They are way to wide. for some reason the distance between the controls on the apex are alot closer together than the RX1. Yamaha has used the full pads for along time, maybe one of the older models will have a narower pad that will fit. I guess time will tell.

I talked to a Yamaha rep at Hay Days. The reason for the poor quality on the handlebar pad is they didn't plan on putting one on at all. They originally were just putting it on the RTX and the GT but Yamaha's "safety board" or something to that nature (I don't remember what he called it) said they could not ship those sleds without some sort of pad...hence the half-assed end product. He did say you will be able to buy something close to the RTX/GT pad in the accessory catalog.

MrSled & I were thinking of getting the TY logo silkscreened onto it.

Or a smaller sticker?

I can't find this on the website.
Can anyone confirm this is the correct part number?
Thanks

At Haydays, Yamaha had a accesorized apex that had a full pad like we are used to having on our sleds with a pocket in it. The only problem was at 5'9" I couldn't see the instrument pod very well when sitting on this sled.
