I hear a clunking coming from my rear suspension while trail riding slow over larger bumps. When the ice melted I investigated a bit a found the transfer rod has some play in it. (See YouTube Video)
Other posts say this is normal but Im thinking I have a worn bushing or spacer. Whats the fix for this?

Looks like your bearings, index 59 on Track Suspension 2 illustration found on most Yamaha dealer sites, are shot. Here's a link to Port Yamaha, a site sponsor: https://shop.portyamaha.com/fiche_s...=Snowmobiles&make=Yamaha&year=2007&fveh=33549

I saw that also when I looked at the fiche. Actually emailed Kevin asking about #59. But then I started to find posts on here and people are saying it is normal.

Clunking of the transfer rod linearly (Along its axis) is normal. I mean the rod inside. You need new bearings in the eyes.

Agree with ramsomair your needle bearing is probably 100% gone with that much movement,I had to change these on mine(be very careful installing new as the oem bearings are a plastic cage&pretty easy to damageClunking of the transfer rod linearly (Along its axis) is normal. I have removed my transfer rod every couple years and cleaned the needles with Brake Kleen then repack with grease. 30,000km and still good!

You can do it with an arbor press or vise(may need to use a shallow socket depending on size of vice)also there are 2 small shaft seals on either side of bearing that should be replaced.can press in or use a bushing/seal driver setI take it I need a press to remove and install new bearings?

Am I risking anything driving the sled with this issue?

Wearing out the rod mount due to the slop so the new bearings and seals won't fit properly...just a guess on my part.

If the rod comes apart it could start a #*$&@ storm of broken pieces potentially destroying your track.......worst case scenario.Wearing out the rod mount due to the slop so the new bearings and seals won't fit properly...just a guess on my part.

With track lifted off the ground transfer rod does not move much at all.

no they don’t have a lot of travel anyway but they play a very important role of transfer in the mono skidWith track lifted off the ground transfer rod does not move much at all.
