the vibration started immediately after i changed the belt. at 40 miles per hour you feel the vibration as if you are about to loose the track from under you.kviper said:How many miles did you put on the new belt before you were going WOT, Should have been at least 20 cause a new belt can slip, glaze and cause vibes. I had some vibes coming frome mine at higher speed's, Wound the driven clutch 10 degre's tighter and all was smooth.

Thats something else that I considered, maybe the dealer sold me an OLD belt he had in stock ... as far as relubung...the ssled is brand new and its too coninsidental that it started just after i blew the belt.Red2003 said:On my RX1 last year, I changed a belt out at about mid season. I installed a new Yammi 8dn belt and had an on power vibration afterwards. I never smoked it, and it was broken in properly. The vibration wasn't extreme, but was noticable. As part of routine maintenance this summer, I put on another new belt and this season, no vibration what so ever. The only other drivetrain maintenance was relubing the bearings in the skid and jackshaft / driveshaft. I'd try another belt just in case.

I presume you carry a spare belt at all times so you have two, right? (If not, you need to go buy another one)
Have you put your second belt on and see if the vibe goes away? That'll answer the question real quick of whether it's a defective belt or not. I think this possibility needs to be eliminated before you dig deep into other parts of the machine. If you find it is a defective belt take it back and exchange it for another where you bought it...should be no charge unless you've already worn it out.

Glad you mentioned the belt there. LMAO I would say it is rare but if you need a second belt it would certainly eliminate that now wouldnt it.

You stated earlier that you had the secondary wrapped as tight as it would go,before the belt blew, this could be the reason it blew,if you wrapped it to 120 degrees w/a pink spring and run it all the time like this it will build alot more heat than it should,i have never blown a belt on a yammi yet,w/thousands of miles and w/various clutch set ups..SERPAGS said:BUMP

I'm far from a Yamaha expert, but you keep saying you've changed nothing but the belt, and then the vibration started. If that's true, then the first obvious culprit is the belt.
I've never met a snowmobiler who didn't carry a spare belt....so test it by putting your spare on (or go buy a spare if you don't have one) and running it again. If you can't get your money back for this defective belt (I'm making an assumption here), then make this one your spare...at least you can limp home with it if you burn out another one.
Defective belt? Maybe. Or the new belt was fine until you wore a flat spot in the brand new belt from improper secondary assembly? Is your belt now too tight? Check deflection specs. If you belt is too tight, it would burn a flat spot in a brand new belt in less than 2 minutes of idling. When that happens, you get a heckuva vibration.

Haven't change the belt yet. Haven't had the time, but will definately do that before anything else.
Other suggestions was that the clutch became unbalanced. Can this be ?
Secondary is not too tight (I don't think anyway), as per Yamaha specs. I don;t know about the degrees, but iyts set at 6 and 1 if that means anything.

Unless a chunk of exploded belt got stuck in the PRIMARY, it won't have gone out of balance.

Well then all I can see is that the belt is defective. I shall let you all know once I replace and try. Meanwhile, thanks to all that responded.LazyBastard said:Unless a chunk of exploded belt got stuck in the PRIMARY, it won't have gone out of balance.
