Let me begin with, that when my wife and I ride together on our current sleds that the mileage is close enough that it isn't a factor. I'm on a 15 viper, my wife a 16 venture. I'm happy with the distances between junctions on our trail map to be matching our odometers reasonably. That's the good part. So here's the problem. I purchased a new 2017 sr viper xtx se at the end of last season. We finally had a chance to ride it last week while on vacation with the following odometer readings at the end of our ride between my 2015 viper (89.4 miles) and the 2017 viper (75.1 miles) That's a 14.3 mileage difference. When I'm riding at what feels to be around 45 mph, this sled registers around 30 mph. It just doesn't feel right. Don't get me wrong, we love our sleds to the point that the wife is trying to lay claim that this new sled should be hers also. LOL But honestly, what's going on with the odometer? Trail Traveler

The dealer probably hasn't updated the ecu flash, some time in 17 Yamaha had a flash that was showing at least 10 mile per hour slower than actual speed and more off on certain models with different gearing and driver's like you xtx has, I would get the latest flash that just came out a few weeks ago, just need to get sled to the dealer, its about a 10 minute process.Let me begin with, that when my wife and I ride together on our current sleds that the mileage is close enough that it isn't a factor. My 17's speedometer is bang on with my GPS at 60 mph and other speeds too. I haven't tried checking the odometer but might compare next time I'm out. Mine hasn't had the new flash yet.

Thank you so much for that info. I had to wait until the dealership opened to call and have them run the VIN number. They confirmed it needed the updated reflash and I scheduled an appointment to have it done. Many thanks again!

I'm running the early 17 flash and it's out by 18% I figure. Didn't get the up dated flash in 17 to correct it but will likely get the 19 flash . I figured it'll just keep the mileage Down a bit!

I was pressure washing my sled last week and the speedo sensor unglued from the the chain case, was wondering why speedo was reading zero on my last ride and no miles were logged on the odometer.Sneaky! Lol

I had my chain case apart and dislodged mine. What did you use to tack it back on?I was pressure washing my sled last week and the speedo sensor unglued from the the chain case, was wondering why speedo was reading zero on my last ride and no miles were logged on the odometer.

Black rtv is what I used but whatever you use make sure you clean it well. Mine had a oily film on it.
