Boosted 998 Success

How would it know when to pull timing or add fuel with no knock sensor? It does not know what the octane of the fuel is, that technology would cost more than the sled it self! A big part of the safeguarding of this motor is hinged on a knock sensor!?

Well thanks, just what I was asking, if not the knock sensor what sensor will protect motor from lower octane fuel problems. Nothing!

Can't remember where the claim came from, video or hearsay?

I wouldn't panic just yet! I can't believe Yamaha put a knock sensors in to protect there motor from warranty claims only to not have it functional? Has to be more to it!

Yeah who knows, maybe this motor can just run on 87 octane but 91 gives Yamaha a warm fuzzy feeling.
