I just finished assemblying my chaincase after the extrovert install.
(Without the bolt..)
Is there any reason to get a new bolt? Will it do any harm to run without it?
I guess since almost every Nytro runs on a broken bolt it should'nt be a prolem? Better to have the broken piece removed, and run without?
Or what are your thoughts on this?

Here is a pic from a post Ulmer put up, very well done, I had mine apart and bolt was fine, I'm guessing when the bolt breaks the spring flange runs against the cover?? Spring holds everything else in place?

I have over 4000km WITHOUT the bolt in my 08 Nytro RTX and over 1500km in my bro's 09 XTX without the bolt as well.

I think it's so easy why not make the bolt right? Correct me if I am wrong but besides the broken bolt rolling around in the collar (if it isn't removed) creating metal shavings? Also isn't the spring loaded collar pressing against the outer chaincase cover with the bolt out? It seems like I had to press the collar in to get the bolt started. Not saying it don't/won't last but I like it right for my piece of mind!

mytro .. that's what i figured out also. Im running without it.. Why put back a bolt that is gonna break ?
There was no problem assembling the chaincase without the bolt so i can't see the problem..
Hoping someone will chime in if im totally wrong...
enticeraised: Sounds good!

Oh yeah the bearing forgot about that. Still wouldn't be good with the broken bolt rolling in there

Dosen't that bolt set your chain alignment?? That is why you always tighten the chain case side first then the speedo drive side. I do know on other brands if you tighten your speedo side FIRST and then your chain case side your chain may not run true and spit the chain----ask me how I know!!!

No, once the chaincase is assembled the bottom sprocket is held in place by the springs tension pushing on the parts in between. You are correct in procedure though. Always assemble and tighten right side before locking bearing on speedo side.

So the bolt would not be needed for reverse chaincase only. If you have no reverese then you better put the bolt in---correct?

can you reuse the cover gasket, and is there anything to watch out for when taking cover off, flying parts etc.

I am just getting ready to do this, good thing I read that. So you fully install and bolt in the chain case side before even setting/locking speedo bearing in place? Do I just leave the bearing floating till I get the chain case side tight?

If its broke take the drive axle to them and they should remove the old one and replace under warranty. I dont think they will dig into the chaincase for free just to find out if its broke.

Yes, gasket is reuseable. You will want to clean it off/wipe it down good before reinstalling though, and just be sure its seated correctly before you snug the cover down. The reverse idler gears have a small spring between them - it shouldn't fly out at you or anything like that, just be aware its there and don't lose it.
