broken suspension

I am not defending the practice but the way it is for Technical bulletins and updates is they only get fixed if there is a issue. The only true recalls are "safety" recalls.

Well most dealers don't want to do it as Yamaha only pays the dealer a lesser rate for the labor of the service tech. So having warranty work done at the dealer doesn't put as much money in the dealers pocket as if they can easily get the customer to pay the regular labor rate that the dealer charges.

I have had no issues with my dealer doing updates. In fact, while we had the skid out, he had already replaced the bushings in the front end!

The tricky ones are when the dealer and tech support need to make a determination if a failure was due to abuse, normal wear and tear or a manufacturer defect. And that makes sense to me.

The link failing has been shown to be a defect, but it first needs to fail, and it second needs to show no signs of abuse. Of couse, when it fails, it can take out a few other components.

Mine just happened to have the h arm fail and i don't think this would be from abuse since that link probably should have failed first before that H arm.

I guess it all depends on the hit. At this point, I am more than happy to take care of my dealer on the labor side. The suspension upgrade kit would be nice to see taken care of by Yamaha.

I won't be badmouthing my sled yet. 3,000 miles of fun so far, and I don't see myself selling it yet. In fact, I was just at a buddies place last night helping him put Hyfax on his "new to him" 07 FX that he picked up for a steal. I'm excited for him to have this sled in such great condition. We can only hope to see him posting here soon instead of just lurking and reading about our fun!

As we say on the bikes, Keep the rubber down!

so the old link on the 07's is pretty much guranteed to fail and when it does more than likely other stuff is going to brake also. so y doesnt yamaha just take care of the old link before it brakes along with other things braking?? that would save yamaha some money i would think but thats just my opinion

About the only thing they dont replace with the update is the rails and the track. They must figure odds are low enough to take that chance and when my rails got took out from the junk link and shaft I had to go through alot to get them to cover them. Most would probably have given in and just paid for them.

Good news from my dealer yesterday. The technician called into Yamaha techical support to determine if the H-arm may have been defective. They said yes.

So that means that Yamaha will be paying for the Suspension Update Kit and labor to install. This will replace the link, arm and connecting components. Roughly $500 worth of parts and labor.

That's huge, and I can't thank my dealer enough to make that call into tech support.

I can't wait to check it out with all the new components. Too bad the snow is going away fast as we have been above 30 for a couple days.

Thanks guys, it's the support here that encouraged me to make the call to Yamaha and push my dealer to do me the favor of calling it in and just trying.

This forum is an incredible resource.
