Not to cause any alarm. but in servicing my friends ltx last night, i found the chain case cover cracked around the right upper bolt. was hard to see as the wire loom somewhat covers it up. looks to have been there from day one when they installed the cover. has no sign of an oil leak. this is just for information.

Also have seen this. Careful with those bolts, the torque spec is really low so its easy to over tighten.

The servo does not need to be pre-loaded when re-installed. It is a time based system so when the machine shifts into FWD it is timed to turn the motor longer than needed which puts a force on the actuator when removed.
Has anyone seen pics of a servo taken apart?

My dealer has 100% success rate. Think I am bsing? Many of these Cat guys I ride with. We are friends but are in competition. I want desperately for my Viper to be better than them. I dont want to win by failure though.
Also take a look in the Phazer forum. Phazer has a electric reverse. BIG issues. Yamahas solution was to run the belt low in secondary with corresponding loss in performance as a side effect. Is that a fix? People are still jumping up and down to engage reverse. Complicated gearbox fails also.
So what is the solution to the issue the Viper has? You tell me.
I'm not sure if that was directed at me or not but if so, I don't know what a good fix is. Better parts would be a start. You don't need to fix my sled correctly for me but thanks for the offer. Lol.. Like I said, the update helped the reverse issues on sleds but did nothing to remedy actuator issues that folks still run into. That's the result of subpar parts and not a lack of mechanical skills. Mine has been fine with the new actuator but you still see guys having issues with the 12 and 13 actuators. Obviously not every actuator is failing and I don't doubt u know several cat guys or a dealer not seeing it often, but they are problematic. I'm hoping the 14' piece on my 13' holds up but it sounds like the 14 pieces may not be any better with the new update announced from cat. Hope I'm wrong and they hold up well and never see a case issue on my 13 or 14. Hopefully some of these viper gear issues are rare and fixed quickly.
It was directed at you. Another question. If the servo is failing how is forcing it to work harder to overcome the ac detent update going to prolong the life of the servo?

Cannondale, I think cat needs to hire you to fix their reverse issues. I'm not kidding.
Admittedly I don't like cats. Had one, my first sled actually and it was junk. Most of my old riding buds had them, and they always had issues, so, no cats for me. About the closest I'll get is a sr viper maybe after a year or 2 in production. And if only do that with an extended yes warranty. I do know my friends would give me a ton of crap about a yamacat though.
Hopefully I get to try out a viper early next month at cruiserfest. On paper and looks, is the right sled for me, and I love the nytro motor.

My cover is cracked in the same spot. top right mount. I found it when doing my 500 mile service. Its not leaking so dealer said to just run it that way until the season is over then bring it in. Told them I don't want to lose any riding time. Mine is also an ltx.

Sorry I'm not sure what you are getting at or what your take on all this is. You know what the fix should be or do you believe these haven't been sub standard parts? I have no idea on the actuator, nor do I know if the new actuator is going to be more reliable, or if the new fix will stop the out of gear issues.... which hopefully is a minority of sleds. Looks like a band aid.
The out of gear thing wasn't very common in the Cat's over the last couple of years so it looks to be a new issue. The only thing I know is what the common failures have been over the last couple seasons and which parts never seem to hold up well. I'm hoping there is an improvement.

I have a good friend who is one of the head guys at a large machine shop who does a lot of work for cat and many others.. He told me a lot of castings that go out of his shop should be scrapped for AC. But they accept a lot looser specs than any other company they work for. They where doing a big run of AC atv gear cases and said it was unreal how bad some where but cat accepted when he thought should be scrapped! I should shut up not really trying to bash cat they do a lot of good things also but there quality has always been last of big 4 mfg's.

Back this with facts. Owned operated and rebuilt Yamahas and Cats, Doo and Polaris over the last few decades and your statement is false in my real world experience, prove me wrong with facts please

rvtransport...sounds deads nuts on...having worked on the cat (procross chassis) I can tell you theres no two machines that end up being the same...even little things like torquing the nuts on the spars were all over the map...this was my conern for the viper buyers...

Not sure what your point is, even Yamaha has those issues. Look up the recall on 2009 Nytros where upper control arms were not tightened correctly at the factory for example. If you have selective memory please do a quick look back at all the issues Yamaha has had. The difference between Yamaha and others though is Yamaha covers there warranty issues.
The new partnership has produced the best Yamaha ever....get over it.
Getting really tired of hearing the sky is falling from people that don't even own a Viper.
