Can I tack weld without removing tensioner? Should I disconnect the battery?

Both sides need to be done, so you have to remove it.
I never unhook the battery, and I've probably welded on over a hundred various machines over the years. But always connect the ground right near where your welding.

Not saying tac welding isn't a good idea but red loctite works fine as well

I loctited mine in 2017 and it hasn't moved since.Not saying tac welding isn't a good idea but red loctite works fine as well

I only gave it a quick glance, how do I remove it without losing the tension?Both sides need to be done, so you have to remove it.

You have to loosen the bolt for the tensioner to remove it. Setting chain tension is easy and best to do when case is open anyway.

It's easy to reset the tension. The most difficult part will be getting the spring back in, but even that isn't real hard.I only gave it a quick glance, how do I remove it without losing the tension?

I used red locktite as well no problems. just make sure you clean the threads out with brake cleaner first

Go green locktite.. Permanent! This will and should not be taken apart, nor do you need to loosen. Green all day

I had mine welded already. But If I was not able to get it welded I would pull it out and and take the screws out and clean it really well. Let everything dry and load the threads up heavy with green locker and install screws. let it set for a day or two.We'll only if missing from factory after checking, right?
You ever try taking apart a bolt with tons of green locker on it? If you have you know those screws are not coming loose.
Red will work also, but if your doing it why not just use green?

I was thinking if its hard to unscrew due to locktite already in place then I'm good to go.

Mine had green in it from the factory... Was still loose when I took it apart to check.
Welded many that have loosened with factory green loctite. Wonder if oil is getting to the loctite and allowing the screws to back out?
I don't trust anything but a tack weld.

I'm with Knapp on this. Permanent fix is a tack weld, never have to think about it again.

Red is permanent. The only way I’ve ever gotten something apart after using red was to heat it up with a touchGo green locktite.. Permanent! This will and should not be taken apart, nor do you need to loosen. Green all day
