Clutch Kit Questions. Who is running what and why?

Gentlemen..I am not into speed or racing, but just want my Nytro to engage smoothly and be smooth on slow twisty trails ...what would I need to do clutch wise to accomplish this...is there a quick inexpensive fix or do I have to live with this if I am not willing to buy a new clutch kit...thanks for any info...just spent enough on the machine itself...

Just blew the crap out of a Ultimax 3 belt??? Wot on the lake about 90 and she let go. Other then that I think the rollers and yellow pink yellow spring is pretty close.

Ultimax belt? Thats a problem right there. The stock Yamaha belts are the best and only way to go.

Which belt is softer, or should I say easier for the clutches to get hold of.
Ultimax-XS or Dayco XTX?

r u saying my belt is the problem...i am running on a stock Yamaha belt right now

The proven belt of choice for these is the Ultimax (Carlisle) belt XS-805. It is softer than than the stock belt. It's supposed to grip better therefore causing less slippage which equates to less heat on the clutches.

A softer primary spring, (starting rate) will allow your clutch to engage sooner at lower rpm and possibly less harsh.
Springs aren't too expensive.

14.5 rollers made a huge difference! I can actually just snake around without launching!!
Haven't found out if top end has changed or not.

I got mine from the dealer. Cost $100.00

garyr, the cheapest way to smooth the engagement is to swap in a new primary spring with a lower engagement force. Apparently the stock spring is a Blue-Silver-Blue which has an engagement force of 35 Kg, which is pretty low already. An lesser spring, like the Blue-Pink-Blue with engagement force of 30 Kg would give you a softer engagement, thus lower rpms.

Did you buy the sled new? If not, you could have a different primary spring in there. I'm guessing that you have a different spring in there because the Blue-Silver-Blue spring has a low engagement already. Have a look at the spring in there now. Yamaha springs have a black spring with three splashes of paint marking a section of the spring. Report back with what you find and I can recommend a softer spring for you.

Btw, 14.5 rollers are quite a bit more money than the spring and you get them from your Yamaha dealer.

clutch

I put only 10 miles on sled due to no snow, but the 14.5 rollers make a huge difference, i might try a lighter spring to see if it makes a difference also.

No ...I bought the sled used and do not know if it is the stock spring or if it has been changed out...I have not had a ride on another Nytro to know if there is a difference in mine...only know that when u try to slow down and take your time this machine keeps wanting to take off thus I am on and off the gas on trails

Schlick is running a Y-P-Y spring, he says earlier in this thread it's pretty darn close to where he wants it.. P.S. He's also pretty big like myself.

I weigh 165 before sled clothes...so not in the same weght class as u guys

My Schmidt Bros Stage III kit should be here friday, can't wait! Already beat my buddies 2010 F8 in 500' consistently and traded the first two races to a 2012 xrs 800 E-Tech, hopefully they wont be catching me at the 450' foot mark anymore
