2-stroke no doubt would be lighter, and LESS RELIABLE.
I will NEVER own another two-stroke trail sled again as my main machine. I don't miss changing pistons of scrambling to rebuild an engine before a ride whatsoever. I don't miss the smell or filling oil tanks one bit either! Going two-stroke is like taking a step backwards......

After watching that video it’s hard to believe that cat isn’t interested in staying in the sled bizSee this engineers reaction to the 4S in the Catalyst question.
IF there remains a Yamaha-Cat relationship, scratch that, GIVEN that the Catalyst must have been developed during the window of time of cooperation between Yamaha and Cat it is a near certainty that the chassis has already had the 998T bolted in and plastics developed and considered. We can clearly see that Cat is using a CF reinforced plastic which coincidentally Yamaha owns a patent that is at least similar in scope and use of. Wether it will it ever be released, most of us can only guess (some likely already know). It is clearly also possible that there is a new motor in development and undoubtedly Cat will be releasing a turbo. It is simply extremely unlikely Cat can ignore the market for turbos given that all other mfgs are offering them. By the way the engineer also says that a larger than 800 motor will be in the chassis for 2025
Be nice to know if yamaha is included in their future

With the government 'green agenda' on a global scale now, two strokes may be outright banned in the not so distant future.
It's not that they are bad on fuel emissions, it's the 100% oil burning part of it.

very true, just look at 2 stroke outboard engines...where are the new ones? Evinrude doesn't make 2 strokes or any outboards anymore...not positive why but I thought emissions might have something to do with it. Their e-tec engines were awesome..gone!!!With the government 'green agenda' on a global scale now, two strokes may be outright banned in the not so distant future.

As we get older we become less tolerate to two stroke oil and such. Our group is all 4 stroke and the 2 strokes that occasionally ride with us ride behind us.
I'd rather change a few wheel bearings than be rebuilding engines every year.

As to the speculation if the 998 will fit, on my build where I’m putting a Nytro motor into a custom Viper frame, I centered the motor and am building a narrow oil tank.
Center of frame to edge of primary bolt is 15.75”. That is narrower than an Axys RMK. Oil tank side is going to be about 13.5” from center of frame to outside of oil tank.
If some guy in a garage can build a 3 cylinder with a total width under 29.5” than AC certainly can. I have no doubts the 998 could made to fit.

Evinrude was bought by BRP in 2000 and exited the business in 2020.
Notice in that video the Engineer said they will be racing XC this year. That did not happen.

yes, with much disappointment from this fan of the e-tec outboard, I thought emissions and Yamaha taking much of the market share did in Evinrude...but this is a sled site. there is a BRP symbol on my 115...funny thing is it barely burns any oil, oh well..Evinrude was bought by BRP in 2000 and exited the business in 2020.

Definitely a reason for this. I have run them ALL for hundreds of hours. Only one I run on my boats now. Yamaha period.Evinrude was bought by BRP in 2000 and exited the business in 2020.

They are doing mod racing in sx, apparently they are racing two of them. The rx-c's are coming down the line after the current sx models. Then the few catalysts.Notice in that video the Engineer said they will be racing XC this year. That did not happen.
Its too late. All the XC teams are running old Chassis. Old original spindles and all. Even Herfendahl. They would need 300 Catalyst to run any of the XC. SnoX sleds are so different and Modded from Consumer sleds it is really not even pertinent. XC is the ones we should be watching even though I am a big SnoX fan and supporter. They are doing mod racing in sx, apparently they are racing two of them. SnoX sleds are like NASCAR
There is nothing "Stock" about them
Cat is progressing, just slowly
Polaris is the opposite of Cat right now
They continue to bang out new stuff & have really made a CHARGE at Doo for top dog
Although I believe Poo rushes things a bit, I have to admit, they have A LOT to offer
Probably 850 plus next year for Cat then MAYBE 4-S following year
By then the other sleds will have even more newer stuff out or at least some miles on their stuff
Sleds are very similar to NASCAR
You can't play "catch-up" or you'll always be behind
You have to leap forward or you're in 3rd place
