Did you guys see the new Cat Catalyst?

SnoX sleds are like NASCAR
There is nothing "Stock" about them
Cat is progressing, just slowly

Polaris is the opposite of Cat right now
They continue to bang out new stuff & have really made a CHARGE at Doo for top dog
Although I believe Poo rushes things a bit, I have to admit, they have A LOT to offer

Probably 850 plus next year for Cat then MAYBE 4-S following year
By then the other sleds will have even more newer stuff out or at least some miles on their stuff

Sleds are very similar to NASCAR
You can't play "catch-up" or you'll always be behind
You have to leap forward or you're in 3rd place

The smart move, now that the cat is out of the bag would be to show some of the development mules for big bore 2s right after putting the 600 on sale. Every manufacturer is afraid of eating their own lunch (losing sales of existing models) but really the fear of losing sales never really pans out against the benefit of pre-selling (and stealing other manufacturers sales). Cat needs to build excitement for what is coming and start to pull some leadership away from BRP. New chassis, new engine, new whatever, it won't hurt Cat as much as it will hurt BRP and Polaris. They may even increase sales in some areas just due to the momentum they can create.

If Yamaha and Cat continue on past 2024 why don't they just come out and say the 998 will be in it.


Both companies have been essentialy radio silent/no comment on the matter and that should tell us everything.
In Snowtech magasine they did say Yamaha is working with AC on Catalyst for future models. I doubt that means 2S painted blue only.
 
TURBO power(especially tuned) has re-ignited my passion for snowmobiling. And no, that doesn't mean two-stroke turbo, as the power band is still narrow. To be perfectly honest, I love everything Turbo, from farm machinery to my pickup truck with twin-Turbos.
As a gear-head, I really appreciate the dramatically increased width of power band, and that faint whistle your hear in the background is pleasing too.
I understand that not everyone appreciates it as much as I do, given that two-stroke sales remain strong in snowmobiles.

I have not seen one word about Yamaha in Cats future, let alone with the Catalyst. What page and issue?
 
with a rear facing exhaust , will be interesting how much of a bite they are going to take out of the gas tank. It’s already pretty small at 36 litres

My next sled will be where the 998 motor lies, so if its a Polaris, then I will be on it. CaT will tank without that motor.

I definitely agree and I also like the sound of diesels as in my 3500 Cummins , the Yanmar in my boat, and my Kubatoa tractor all rattling away...especially that Cummins sound.:)
 
They have put a 998 in a prototype chassis and the frames are twisting,I like the belt drive and it can handle the turbo no problem
 
Put belt drive on mine. No reserve but sure is nice to be done with its problems and what a weight loss, much easier to work on now. Seems quicker and rpm's went up a few hundred which is nice because when I changed to the adapt clutch that took it down that many. Since I was in the modifying mood through a Teamfast King Air under it. I better not turn down any overtime for the next year!
 
How will they implement reverse on a 4s with belt drive?
I had been giving it some thought since I picked up on the fact that new drive is belt. I'm envisioning a shut down of engine when reverse mode is activated, and then an electric motor that engages with belt for reverse function. With drive by wire tech these days, there should be no reason the throttle could not control the reversing motor. Just an idea!
 
They could also do it with a gearbox and a good old manual lever. K.I.S.S. method. Could use a magnetic clutch system similar to the hubs on a Polaris ATV or Subaru Car and either engage it with 12v or engage it with Magnetic Force generated by driveshaft. Would still require a chain or better yet a second belt. But would eliminate shift forks and the POS Actuator currently used.

BMW does something like this with the K1600 motorcycle. They actually use the starter motor and a drive cable through a worm gear. It would make for a very slow reverse on a sled.
 
This new Cat will have to have a wide body to house the 998T and Exhaust, maybe they already have one in the works, funny, through unspoken suggestions Yamaha is kinda hinting they may sell engines to Polaris, will it be the 998T or a new platform engine for Polaris, personally I can't see Polaris sourcing 4 stroke engines from Yamaha with the amount of 4 strokes they already have, maybe we will see the last of the 998T And see a new 4 Stroke twin cylinder turbo in the new Cat chassis, Question is will Yamaha build it.
